The present investigation evaluated the influence of seasonality and locality on the structure of the parasite community of the catfish Pimelodus blochii. A total of 160 fish were collected from two rivers in the State of Acre, western Brazilian Amazon: 80 fish in River Acre and 80 in River Iaco, with 40 in each season (rainy and drought). The overall prevalence was 78.7% and 1461 parasite specimens (adults and larvae) were allocated in 22 taxa: 5 of Monogenea, 10 of Nematoda, 3 of Digenea, 1 of Cestoda and 3 of Crustacea. In drought season, Procamallanus (Spirocamallanus) pimelodus and Demidospermus peruvianus were more prevalent in River Acre and Iaco, respectively. The parasite diversity (Brillouin index) as well as the prevalence and abundance of the monogeneans D. peruvianus, D. striatus, Demidospermus sp. and Ameloblastella sp. were higher in River Acre. The parasite community structure were dissimilar among rivers, and seasonally in River Iaco. These results suggest that environmental traits may overshadow seasonal influences on the parasite community structure, which may be related to the higher anthropization in River Acre. Furthermore, seasonality exerted less influence on the parasite community than expected, probably because the two rivers have different hydrological traits than those of other rivers in the Brazilian Amazon. New host and locality records expanded our knowledge of parasite biodiversity of P. blochii.

Nas regiões neotropicais, há estimativa de 9.100 espécies de peixes, e centenas de espécies novas são descritas anualmente, o qual a bacia amazônica abriga cerca de 2200 espécies de peixes corresponde a essa estimativa. Leporinus friderici é um peixe da ordem Characiformes conhecido popularmente como 'piau três pintas' ou 'aracú', trata-se de uma espécie abundante nas regiões neotropicais, que possui hábitos alimentares onívoros, se alimentando de material vegetal, detritos, frutos, sementes, camarão e pequenos peixes. É um peixe muito utilizado na alimentação pela qualidade de sua carne e é facilmente encontrado na região do Rio Matapí-AP. Foram realizadas coletas trimestrais durante setembro de 2015 a maio de 2016 e de agosto de 2017 a outubro de 2018, onde foram capturados 49 espécimes de L. friderici. A fauna de L. friderici foi bastante diversificada, sendo composta por macro e microparasitos, infectando brânquias, intestino, fígado, vesícula biliar, coração, nadadeira e baço do hospedeiro. Durante as análises foram encontrados quatro taxa, sendo eles: Nematoda, Platyhelminthes, Cnidaria (Myxozoa) e Ciliophora, e nove grupos de parasitos, Anisakidae gen. sp., Contracaecum sp., Dactylogyridae gen. sp., larvas de digenea (metacercária), Henneguya sp., Myxobolus sp., Ceratomyxa sp., Piscinoodinium pillulare, Ichthyophthirius multifiliis, Trichodina sp. e Chilodonella sp.. A ocorrência de micropasitos eucariotos foi a primeira registrada para L. friderici do estado do Amapá.

The construction of dams causes several impacts on aquatic environments, altering the flow of rivers, environmental variables, and all biota present, including parasites. Little is known about how the parasitic community can be influenced in the long term by environmental changes. In this study, it was expected that the impacts caused by environmental disturbances will be directly reflected by the composition of the parasite populations. We evaluated the change in the structure of the Prochilodus lineatus endoparasite community between two periods sampled 15 years apart in the upper Paraná River floodplain. There was a significant difference in the weight–length relationship of P. lineatus between these periods and a total of 15 species of parasites were found: 11 species in Period 1 and nine species in Period 2 and five species occurred in both periods. The species richness and diversity were higher in Period 1, and we observed that the correlation of descriptors (richness, diversity and evenness) increased with fish length in this period. In both periods, digeneans numerically dominated the parasitic community, and we verified changes in the composition of parasites between periods. Both the host and the parasites were possibly affected by the environmental impacts resulting from the construction of dams over time, and it is noteworthy that complex life cycle parasites such as Digenea and Acanthocephala require intermediate hosts to complete their life cycle, and the population responds to fluctuations in the face of modified environments.
