A unified science of matter, life and evolution

Abstract: We are accustomed to looking at matter, life and evolution from different viewpoints. In this article, we present a simple but unified theoretical framework inspired by classical mechanics and thermodynamics. Our framework generalizes Newton's third law of matter to encompass life and evolution. The generalized action–reaction relationship includes scale and temporal parameters. This generalization helps explain why life is a system out of equilibrium. Life can go beyond the action–reaction symmetry law of mat… Show more

“…Additionally, the multiscale perspective, where small-scale dynamics can exist without appreciable macroscopic changes, could explain why life can have changes at the genetic scale without instantly affecting the macroscopic, or robust, structure of organisms [260]. This is supported by the fact that multiscale systems, which dissipate energy more efficiently at the macroscopic scale, are less sensitive to initial conditions, as shown in Figure 6a,b in the context of chaos theory.…”

“…This article is followed by two articles that attempt to illuminate the unity of science. A unified theory by Ram Poudel [ 15 ] (Appalachian State University) generalizes Newton's Third Law of Motion to connect life with non-life. The unified framework encompasses social field theory as it pertains to the laws and rules of life.…”

“…The debate over whether matter is a wave or a particle continues to stir discussions about whether the quantum state is indicative of an actual physical reality (ontic) or merely reflects our knowledge (epistemic) of that reality [1,2]. The dominant position in physics is that of the ontic reality, yet despite this prevailing view, the key mathematical object of the wave function [3,4] does not always directly represent the underlying ontic reality [1].…”
