Developmental regulation of Tbx5 in zebrafish embryogenesis

Abstract: T-box (tbx) genes constitute a large family of transcriptional regulators involved in developmental patterning processes. In tetrapods, tbx5 has been implicated in specifying forelimb type identity. Here, we report the cloning of the zebrafish tbx5.1 gene and characterise its expression during zebrafish embryogenesis and early larval development of wild type and mutant embryos that affect pectoral fin patterning. tbx5.1 is expressed during development of the heart, the pectoral fins and the eye. Notably, its e… Show more

“…These markers include dorsally: ephrinB2A (25), msx-c (26), tbx5.1 (27), and BMP4 (28), and ventrally: pax2a (29) and vax2 (30). Whereas the direct functions of most of these molecules have yet to be well characterized within the retina, they are thought to play a role in compartment patterning, and serve as useful markers for the gross subdivision of the retina into dorsal and ventral compartments.…”

“…In situ hybridisation was performed as previously described (Begemann and Ingham, 2000). Probes used have been described previously: shha (Krauss et al, 1993), ihha (Qiao, 1996) ptc1 (Concordet et al, 1996), gli2a (Karlstrom et al, 1999), bmp4 (Hwang et al, 1997), prdm1 (Baxendale et al, 2004) and evx1 (Thaeron et al, 2000).…”
