“…In addition to the known protective effects of mucilage, and anti-inflammatory and antimicrobial properties of honey, the palatability of honey itself might promote salivation, reducing cough caused by low levels of irritation in the larynx and pharynx [ 31 ]. In conclusion, KalobaTUSS ® is well tolerated and exerts positive effects by reducing the severity and shortening the duration of cough in children.…”

“…Demulcents are thought to act by creating a protective layer that coats the sensory receptors in the pharynx, reducing the possibility of their activation and triggering the cough reflex. In a 2018 Cochrane review, Oduwole et al (21) analyzed six RCTs (involving 899 children aged 12 months to 18 years) which assessed the effects of honey on acute cough due to upper RTIs (22)(23)(24)(25)(26)(27). In the studies covered by this review, different types of honey (e.g.…”

“…Both the stem and the fruit extracts, for instance, are rich sources of cysteine proteases (bromelain). A. comosus extract is very rich in both proteolytic enzymes (such as bromelain) and nonproteolytic enzymes [28,29] which are considered a phytotherapeutic drug owing to their characteristics anti-edematous, anti-inflammatory, fibrinolytic, and anti-thrombotic activities [30]. The inedible pineapple peel is also a rich in polyphenols [24].…”
