Anthropometric measurements and indices are a simple and inexpensive method to assess normal physical development and quickly identify the risk of diseases. The aim of the study was to verify the sensitivity (Se) and specificity (Sp) of selected anthropometric indices in a group of women over 40 years. The study included 87 women (group I—40 to 49 years, group II—50 to 59 years, group III—60 to 69 years, and group IV—70 to 79 years). Anthropometric characteristics were measured: body mass (BM), body height (BH), waist circumference (WC), and hip circumference (HC). Body mass index (BMI), body adiposity index (BAI), waist-hip ratio (WHR), and waist-to-height ratio (WHTR) were calculated. The percentage of fat tissue (FT) and visceral fat volume (FV) were evaluated using DEXA. A decrease in mean BH with an increase in the mean WC, WHR, and WHTR in subsequent decades. There were strong statistically significant correlations between FT and most indicators (except for WHR). FV was correlated at a strong or moderate level with most parameters. In the group of women aged 40 to 80 years, the most favorable AUC was obtained for WC, followed by BMI. BAI can be recommended as a complementary indicator to BMI.

Background: Indonesia as an agricultural country is still having nutritional problems (stunting and undernutrition) caused by mothers’ lack of knowledge, attitude and practice of eating behavior. Purpose: This research aims to investigate the impact of knowledge, attitude, and practice of eating behavior of mothers of children under five on stunting and undernutrition prevalence in the agricultural communities in Jember. Methods: This cross-sectional research used questionnaires as a method to collect data from respondents i.e. mothers who have toddlers about the knowledge, attitudes and practice of eating behavior. The research was conducted in 2018-2019 in Jember. A total of 414 respondents who met the inclusion criteria (those resided in the study area and were willing to participate in this study) were chosen through random sampling. The data were then analyzed by using Spearman rho’s test to search the effect of the knowledge and attitudes of the mothers of under fives toward stunting and undernutrition. While eating behavior was described based on the results of interviews with respondents on 2x24 hours of food recall and food frequency questionnaires. Results: This study showed that knowledge and attitudes of mothers regarding eating behavior were related to the occurrence of stunting (p = 0.01; p = 0.04) and malnutrition (p = 0.04), except for the attitude variable towards malnutrition (p = 0.81). Data analysis results regarding eating behavior showed that there was still a lack of fulfillment of certain nutrients, both macronutrients (fiber) and micronutrients (Vitamin B1, Vitamin C, Vitamin E, Potassium, Sodium, Calcium and Folic Acid.) to the RDA reference which was recorded as severe deficiency in 60-97% of children under five. Conclusion: Adequate knowledge and attitudes of mothers of diet can be a factor that prevents nutritional problems (stunting and malnutrition). The consumption pattern assessed showed that there was still a lack of fulfillment of certain nutrients both macro (fiber) and micronutrients against RDA reference. Further research needs to be done to explore the right promotive and prevention approach based on the lack of nutrition found in each area.

Nutritional Status and Body Composition in Wilson Disease: A Cross-Sectional Study From China

Background: Abnormal nutritional status is frequently seen in patients with chronic diseases. To date, no study has investigated the detailed characteristics of abnormal nutritional status among Wilson's disease (WD) patients in the Chinese cohort. This study aimed to describe the nutritional status of WD patients, with a particular focus on the differences between patients with different phenotypes.Methods: The study subjects comprised 119 healthy controls, 129 inpatients (hepatic subtype, n = 34; neurological subtype, n = 95) who were being treated at the affiliated hospital of the Institute of Neurology, Anhui University of Chinese Medicine. All of the subjects were assessed for body composition by using bioelectrical impedance analysis. All WD patients received anthropometry, nutritional risk screening 2002 (NRS2002), and laboratory test (hemocyte and serum biomarkers) additionally.Results: Compared with healthy controls, the fat mass and rate of total body and trunk were significantly higher in WD patients (P < 0.001), the muscle and skeletal muscle mass of total body and trunk were significantly lower in WD patients (P < 0.001). Compared with hepatic subtype patients, the fat mass and rate of total body, trunk, and limbs were significantly lower in neurological subtype patients (P<0.01); while there were no significant differences in muscle and skeletal muscle between these two subtypes. The overall prevalence of abnormal nutritional status in WD patients was 43.41% (56/129). The prevalence of high-nutritional risk and overweight in WD patients was 17.83% (23 of 129) and 25.58% (33 of 129), respectively. Compare with patients with high nutritional risk, macro platelet ratio, alkaline phosphatase, the basal metabolic rate (p < 0.05), creatinine, trunk fat rate (p < 0.01) and appendicular skeletal muscle mass (p < 0.001) were significantly higher in patients without nutritional risk (p < 0.001). Patients with a high nutritional risk tend to have a lower cholinesterase concentration (x2 = 4.227, p < 0.05).Conclusion: Both patients with H-subtype and N-subtype are prone to have an abnormal nutritional status. Longitudinal studies are required to investigate if nutritional status and body composition could reflect prognosis in WD patients, and which of these body composition indexes contribute to malnutrition and worse prognosis.
