“…These data are in accordance with previous studies reporting evidence that older adolescents, especially girls, have a much higher prevalence of body dissatisfaction than do younger adolescents [39][40][41]. Lower body dissatisfaction in early adolescence could be related to the lack of BI identity because of morphological and biopsychosocial changes occurring at early adolescence [18]. Adolescent girls seem to increase their personal expectations after menarche, being more dissatisfied with the changes related to body fat accumulation and turning their attention to weight reduction [14,42,43].…”

“…This self-concept of BI is a multidimensional construct involving the accuracy of the person's perception of the shape and size of their body along with the feelings that this representation can cause [15]. Specifically, in childhood and adolescence, a relevant factor influencing the development of self-concept and self-esteem is BI, which can be negatively affected in obesity [15][16][17][18].…”

“…Although, there is scarce evidence of a long-term relationship among OW/OB, poor oral health status, and oral health-related quality of life (OHRQoL), some studies suggest positive associations [ 5 , 8 ]. Compromised health-related quality of life (HRQoL) associated with increased age and gender in OW/OB adolescents was also reported [ 9 ].…”
