Efficacy of Baccharis dracunculifolia in the treatment of diversion colitis in rats

Abstract: Rationale  Disuse colitis is frequent in our country and the most effective treatment is high cost and there is a need for effective and low cost therapy. Objective  To evaluate the efficacy of Baccharis dracunculifolia (field rosemary) in the treatment of exclusion colitis in rats. “…Rats colostomy patients were treated for 21 days with an intrarectal infusion of B. dracunculifolia extract that reduced inflammation (from 2.7 to 2.1 on a scale ranging from 0 to 3). Still, they did not change vascular congestion in the excluded segment ( Lima et al, 2020 ).…”

“…The results demonstrate that biocompatible liposomes improve the B. dracunculifolia extract anti-inflammatory action in vivo (Figueiredo-Rinhel et al, 2019). Lima et al (2020) evaluated the efficacy of the ethanolic extract of B. dracunculifolia leaves in treating diversion colitis, a complication of intestinal transit diversion. Rats colostomy patients were treated for 21 days with an intrarectal infusion of B. dracunculifolia extract that reduced inflammation (from 2.7 to 2.1 on a scale ranging from 0 to 3).…”

“…Otro antecedente de la actividad anti-inflamatoria de B. dracunculifolia ha sido reportado en un modelo de ratas sometidas a colostomía. El extracto administrado con una infusión intrarrectal disminuyó el proceso inflamatorio asociada a la colitis de exclusión 31 .…”

“…[3][4][5] However, most of these studies were performed in murine models. [6][7][8] For this reason, we evaluated the effects of three different species of the Baccharis genus (B. trimera, B. punctulata, B. notosergila) on human peripheral blood mononuclear cells (PBMCs). Cells were evaluated for phytohemagglutinin (PHA)-induced proliferation and the production of a relevant cytokine, interferon gamma (IFN-γ), by these cells.…”
