“…Considering the risks incurred by iron deficiency anaemia to both the mother and the developing baby, early detection of iron deficiency in pregnant subjects is important. Several studies have shown improvements in the screening of anaemia and the monitoring of effects of iron supplementation in case of IDE during pregnancy, by using parameters indicating the haemoglobin content of mature and immature RBCs 15,19,23,33,34 …”

“…Several studies have shown that parameters reflecting the haemoglobin content of RBCs and reticulocytes are excellent markers for diagnosing iron deficiency during pregnancy 19,33,34 . Although the reference intervals and diagnostic thresholds are method dependent, corresponding markers on other haematology analyzers have shown similar trends during pregnancy 7,15,20 …”

“…The reference intervals for Ret-He have already been determined in different patient populations, ranging from 29.8 pg to 38.2 pg. (27) The proposed 31.2 pg cut-off value of Ret-He was used to differentiate IDA from non-IDA patients. (28) In Thailand, the differences in Ret-He among school-aged children were evaluated, and the Ret-He cut-off ≤27.0 pg was suggested to identify IDA in a thalassemia-prevalent area.…”
