“…Various types of nasal packing and/or septal sutures can be used to help wound recovery and prevent complications such as adhesion of nasal cavities and septal hematoma and to stabilize the newly created septum at the end of surgical procedures on the nasal septum. [9,10] However, nasal packing decreases postoperative patient comfort significantly, causes pain, anxiety and a feeling of pressure on the face. [2,11] The pain and discomfort due to nasal packing gradually increase during the time that it remains in the nose, and become severe while withdrawing the packing material.…”

“…A 2015 study on 49 patients who underwent septoplasty found that those who received transmucosal sutures instead of intranasal tamponade had sufficient outcomes, with only three patients experiencing postoperative nasal synechiae [ 25 ]. A 2016 study of 92 patients compared the use of a tamponade (i.e., Merocel) with that of transmucosal sutures and observed no postoperative bleeding and statistically significantly lower levels of pain and headache in the group treated with transmucosal sutures; moreover, transmucosal sutures were more cost-effective than the tamponades [ 26 ].…”

“…While assessing the use of NTs in sports as a temporary solution to anterior epistaxis, 5 alongside the application of pressure to the nose bridge, 6 potential respiratory complications from the use of nasal packing need to be considered, 7 as well as the existence of other treatment methods such as transeptal suturing. 8 …”
