CTX-M extended-spectrum β-lactamase-producing Klebsiella spp, Salmonella spp, Shigella spp and Escherichia coli isolates in Iranian hospitals

Abstract: This study was conducted in Iran in order to assess the distribution of CTX-M type ESBLs producing Enterobacteriaceae. From January 2012 to December 2013, totally 198 E. coli, 139 Klebsiella spp, 54 Salmonella spp and 52 Shigella spp from seven hospitals of six provinces in Iran were screened for resistance to extended-spectrum cephalosporins. After identification and susceptibility testing, isolates presenting multiple-drug resistance (MDR) were evaluated for ESBL production by the disk combination method and… Show more

“…COVID-19 is characterized by high fever, difficult breathing, dry cough and atypical pneumonia and is usually confirmed by positive RNA test or computed tomography of the lungs [2]. COVID-19 is spreading rapidly in the world, and on 11 March 2020, WHO announced the outbreak a global pandemic [3]. After the first major outbreak in Wuhan, China in January, South Korea, Iran and Italy in late February and early March 2020 became involved in this pandemic [4].…”

“…Antibiotic-resistant elements in Acinetobacter strains are commonly carried on MGEs, such as the R plasmids, transposons (TEs), integrons (Int) , and genomic islands (GEIs) [5]. Integrons are conserved sequences (3′-CS and 5′-CS) of DNA that are able to acquire gene cassettes, which can carry antibiotic resistance genes, by site-specific recombination [6].…”

“…In this method, cell pellets were transferred to 50μl of distilled water in an eppendorf tube and incubated at 100°C for 10 min. After centrifuging of the lysate at 6000à—g for 10 min, the supernatant was stored at -20°C as a template DNA stock [ 19 , 20 ].…”
