Differential gene expressions of the MAPK signaling pathway in enterovirus 71-infected rhabdomyosarcoma cells

Abstract: EV71 infection induces the differential gene expressions of MAPK signaling pathway such as ERK, JNK and PI3K/AKT in RD cells, which may be associated with the secretions of inflammatory cytokines and host cell apoptosis.

“…As reported previously, EV71 infection induced apoptosis in both caspase-dependent and caspase-independent manners (Chang et al, 2004;Chen et al, 2007;Liang et al, 2004;Lu et al, 2013;Shi et al, 2013). To determine whether PDTC could influence the apoptosis-inducing property of EV71, cells were infected with EV71 (1.5 × 10 6 TCID50) and cultured in the medium containing various concentrations of PDTC for 7 h. Apoptotic cells were determined by flow cytometry through measuring the exposed phosphotidylserine.…”

“…MAPKs are key signaling molecules in innate immunity, which are widely conserved in eukaryotes and play an important role in response to many viral infections. The activation of MAPK signaling leads to the expression of cytokines or affects the growth of viruses [35]. Many RNA virus infections have shown differential expression of MAPK signaling pathway viz.…”

“…The information in MAPK pathway is transmitted via protein-protein interactions. By phosphorylating serine and threonine residues in diverse groups of proteins, MAPKs convert a variety of extracellular signals into a multitude of cellular responses (Ceballos-Olvera et al, 2010;Shi et al, 2013).…”
