Determination of urine tumor necrosis factor, IL-6, IL-8, and serum IL-6 in patients with hemorrhagic fever with renal syndrome

Abstract: TNF, IL-6, and IL-8 were activated during the course of the disease. IL-6 was associated with the immunopathological lesions caused by the hyperfunction of the humoral immune response. IL-6, IL-8 and TNF were involved in renal immune impairment. Determining them might, to a certain extent, be useful in predicting the prognosis and outcome of patients with HFRS.

“…Finally, a multivariate stepwise forward and reverse logistic regression model was constructed, confirming the relevance of the IL-6 levels at the time of patient hospitalization in the prediction of the outcome of HCPS ( Table 5 ). It is well documented that IL-6 levels are significantly elevated in the serum of patients with HCPS, epidemic nephropathy (EP), and HFRS [ 5 , 12 , 35 ]. Consistent with our findings, other reports show that IL-6 levels are even higher in severe-disease patients compared with mild-disease patients [ 13 , 35 ].…”

“…HFRS has the characteristics of sudden onset and fast progression. Laboratory tests can only asses for indicators of platelet decrease, proteinuria, lymphocyte increase, and a CD4:CD8 ratio decrease . Many previous studies have demonstrated that high concentrations of IFN‐γ, IL‐10, CCL2, IL‐12p70, and sIL‐2R can be found in patient serum .…”

“…Several previous studies reported an association of pro-inflammatory cytokines and severity of hantavirus infections [ 14 , 23 - 26 ]. There are only few reports about the role of anti-inflammatory and suppressive cytokines such as TGF-β in hantavirus infection.…”
