Objectives: The aim of this study; to determine the effects of preoperative smoking dependence and noninvasively measured carboxyhemoglobin (COHb) levels on perioperative complications in patients who underwent elective laparoscopic cholecystectomy. Methods: Ninety patients (Group I: smoker, Group II: non-smoker, and Group III: passive smoker) who underwent laparoscopic cholecystectomy under general anesthesia were studied. The level of dependence of smokers was evaluated with the Fagerstrom Test for Nicotine Dependence (FNBT). Preoperative COHb level was determined with a pulse CO-oximeter by placing a sensor on the fingertip. Respiratory complications in the perioperative and recovery room and Modified Aldrete Score (MAS) in the recovery room were recorded as 5th, 10th and 15th min. Results: Female gender was significantly higher in Groups II and III. Significant increases were noted in Group I in terms of increased perioperative secretion and incidence of bronchospasm. In the recovery room, the increase in MAS 5th min in Group I and MAS 10th min and 15th min in Group III was significantly lower. In Group I, positive correlations between the COHb level and the number of cigarettes smoked and the FNBT level, and a negative correlation between MAS and the number of hours past after the last cigarette smoked were determined. In Group II, the COHb level correlated positively with the number of cigarette smokers at home and negatively with MAS. All these correlations were statistically significant. Conclusions: It was demonstrated that cigarette smoking increased the incidence of perioperative respiratory complications under general anesthesia. Preoperative COHb level estimated by the pulse CO-oximeter can be used as an indicant of the potential risk of perioperative repiratory complications.

The goal of the study was to analyze the effects of using a cell cessation application and the satisfaction of participants in a specialized program. Randomized clinical study in which participates in study 25, a specialized smoking cessation program for a period of 12 weeks. No significant differences were detected in the cessation rate (p = 0.1317) and returned (p = 1,000). The intensity of the abstinence syndrome and absolute variation (delta) identified a reduced reduction only for the GApp (p = 0.0165), when comparing the delta between unidentified groups with statistically significant differences (p = 0.1066). In the general satisfaction questionnaire, the participants reported the ease in the aspects analyzed. There were no significant differences for GApp and GC (p> 0.05). Conclude if the cell phone application did not influence smoking cessation, withdrawal syndrome and smokers' satisfaction when used in participants in a specialized program.

Objectives:To observe the effect of different fresh gas flows (FGF) on carboxyhemoglobin (COHb) levels non-invasively and continuously and to determine the contribution of the smoking status to intraoperative carbon monoxide (CO) accumulation and respiratory complications.Methods: A total of 64 patients were included in the study. Carboxyhemoglobin level was monitored noninvasively from the fingertip. Patients were divided into 2 according to the FGF as low-flow anesthesia (LFA; Group L) and high flow anesthesia (Group H). Each group was divided again into 2 groups as smokers and non-smokers. Carboxyhemoglobin and Original Articleand the respiratory complications that occurred in the post-anesthesia care unit were recorded. Results:The mean COHb values were significantly higher in Group L between 30th and 210th minutes. Furthermore, in Group L, intraoperative COHb levels were significantly higher in smokers compared to non-smokers in all periods. In group H, no difference was observed between smokers and non-smokers in terms of COHb levels after 60 minutes and also preoperative COHb levels of the patients developed respiratory complication was higher. Conclusion:If the CO 2 absorbent is properly preserved in patients who are administered LFA, there will be no risk of CO accumulation even in chronic smokers. ClinicalTrials.gov REG.
