Purpose of review This review provides updates on postinfectious skin rashes in the pediatric population from recently published literature. Recent findings The COVID-19 pandemic and its sequelae remain a focus of research on pediatric infectious skin rashes. Multisystem inflammatory syndrome in children (MIS-C) and reactive infectious mucocutaneous eruption (RIME) are common complications of infection with SARS-COV-2 in the pediatric population. Most cases of MIS-C show low mortality and suggest mucocutaneous symptoms do not correlate with COVID-19 disease severity. Cases of papular acrodermatitis of childhood, also known as Gianotti–Crosti, have also been reported in association with SARS-COV-2, and can present similarly in reaction to other viral infection like molluscum contagiosum, known as a Gianotti–Crosti syndrome-like reaction (GCLR). Other relevant studies on postinfectious skin rashes include updates on the management of staphylococcal scalded skin syndrome (SSSS), with newer evidence advocating for beta-lactam monotherapy without clindamycin and reduced ancillary testing. Finally, the emergence of antifungal resistance due to Trichophyton indotinae is a growing global health concern emphasizing the need for improved antifungal stewardship. Summary It is prudent for clinicians to be informed of both common and rare diagnoses that have emerged more recently in association with the COVID-19 pandemic, in addition to other diseases with newer evidence-based recommendations to guide management.

“…A única correlação entre o fenótipo cutâneo e a gravidade da COVID-19 foi observada no caso de frieiras acrais lesões, um fenótipo geralmente associado ao curso benigno/subclínico da COVID-19.A literatura é vasta no relato de manifestações cutâneas na infecção por Covid-19, e no entanto, é difícil aplicar as evidências de publicações recentes nas tomadas de decisão em saúde, principalmente pela falta de rigor na descrição das lesões elementares encontradas e pelo emprego de expressões genéricas, com pouca utilidade clínica. O estudo conduzido porSelçuk et al (2023) contribuiu para contornar essa deficiência ao fornecer descrições detalhadas e imagens das alterações em pele e anexos cutâneos. 93% dos pacientes acompanhados pelo grupo apresentou algum tipo de alteração dermatológica 10 , justificando a necessidade de aprofundamento no tema.Lesões perniosas são descritas como lesões acrais maculopapulares eritematopurpúricas, em geral assintomáticas, porém eventualmente, dolorosas e pruriginosas, semelhantes a vasculites e eritema multiforme.…”

A infecção por COVID-19 acarreta diversas modificações no organismo humano, incluindo sinais e sintomas que podem variar em cada indivíduo, principalmente quando se trata de pacientes pediátricos. Os achados clínicos documentados nessa população têm formas de apresentação distintas, o que faz com que ainda se saiba pouco relacionado a essa questão. O objetivo do presente trabalho foi realizar uma revisão integrativa da literatura indexada publicada nos últimos anos a respeito das manifestações dermatológicas em pacientes pediátricos associada à infecção pela COVID-19. Para tal, foi realizada uma busca na base de dados do PubMed, com os termos “Dermatologic manifestations”, “Pediatrics” e “COVID-19”, unidos pelo operador boleano “and”. Foram encontrados 59 artigos e após a aplicação dos critérios de inclusão e exclusão, restaram 10 artigos que foram incluídos nesse trabalho. Como resultado, notou-se que a manifestação cutânea mais associada às crianças foi a lesão que se assemelha à frieira, de característica eritematosa ou violácea que pode ser acompanhada por sensação de coceira e dor nos dedos dos pés, também denominado de covid toes. Ademais, outros estudos evidenciaram rashes eritematosos em terminação de membros e tronco como sinais mais prevalentes, podendo esses, ainda estarem associados à síndrome inflamatória multissistêmica e à doença de Kawasaki. Conclui-se que as manifestações cutâneas da infecção pelo COVID-19 ainda são variadas e pouco conhecidas. É preciso haver um estudo de maior profundidade em centros médicos, hospitais e comunidades para delinear de forma concreta quais as principais manifestações, suas características e seus respectivos tratamentos.
