Recent Development in Synthesis of Carbon Dots from Natural Resources and Their Applications in Biomedicine and Multi‐Sensing Platform

Abstract: Carbon has always found a spotlight in human life either in the form of graphite, diamonds, activated charcoal, carbon nanotubes, or carbon dots (CDs). Carbon quantum dots (CQDs) or CDs became the centre of attraction because of their potential applications in biomedical field such as bio‐imaging, drug nanocarriers, gene therapeutics, photosensitizing agents, theranostics and provides other multifunctional diagnostic platforms. There are numerous advantages of CDs due to their biocompatibility, reduced toxicit… Show more

“…Zero-dimension carbon can be also known as carbon dots (CDs), carbon nanodots (C NDs), or carbon quantum dots (CQDs) [56][57][58][59][60][61][62]. CDs were applied for several promising applications such as drug delivery [63], imaging [64][65][66][67][68], sensing [57,[69][70][71], biosensing [78], energybased applications [77], biomedical [72], and theranostic [73].…”

“…These nanomaterials have attracted great attention for their cost-efficient and sustainable production [ 119 ], using, for instance, natural products [ 120 , 121 ] or biomass waste as carbon source [ 122 ]. However, the fine tailoring of their desired optical properties has been challenging [ 123 ].…”
