“…Before exploring the literature on insubordinate infinitival constructions, we would like to remark that the term 'insubordinate infinitives' as employed in this study, does not seem to be entrenched in the existing literature. Even though infinitives have been studied in the context of insubordination (Comrie, Forker & Khalilova 2016;Wiemer 2017Wiemer , 2019, most studies apply either the term 'independent infinitives'/'independent infinitival constructions' (Nikolaeva 2014;Wiemer 2019) or, and more frequently, 'root infinitives' 3 (Lasser 2002;Grohmann & Etxepare 2003).
