Textile industry is one of the most polluting industries in the world. It has a high importance in terms of its environment impact, since it consumes a considerably large amount of water and produces highly polluted discharge water. In this work, characterization of toxic organic compounds is proposed. Based on gas chromatography coupled to mass spectrometry (GC/MS) screening analysis, organic micropollutant diversity of textile effluents from a local textile processing factory was investigated. In the present work, physicochemical characterization of the studied textile effluents showed considerably high values of principal pollution parameters above the prescribed discharge water limits. Heavy metals like zinc (Zn), copper (Cu), iron (Fe), nickel (Ni), cadmium (Cd), chromium (Cr), and lead (Pb) were found to be present within the permissible limits. The results of GC/MS revealed the presence of various organic compounds belonging to a wide range of chemical classes. Main groups of chemical compounds detected in these effluents were aromatic carboxylic acids, alkanes, aromatic amines, phthalates, aliphatic carboxylic acids, and linear aliphatic alcohols. The results of this study allowed significant contributions to the chemical characterization of textile industry contaminants and identification of indicators that can be considered an important tool for assessment of the potential impact of textile activities to the contamination of aquatic environment and health hazard.

Effet des paramètres physico-chimiques sur la distribution de la flore fécale dans un barrage (Algérie) La présente étude a été effectuée en vue d’évaluer l’influence des fluctuations des paramètres environnementaux sur la charge et la distribution des différentes populations bactériennes d’origine fécale dans le barrage de Boukourdane (Algérie). Le suivi a été établi pendant deux ans (janvier 2013 – janvier 2015) au niveau de quatre stations. Le dénombrement des germes fécaux a été effectué en surface et en profondeur. Le suivi des paramètres bactériologiques a révélé une variation saisonnière, les charges bactériennes enregistrées sont assez élevées surtout durant les saisons froides (hiver et automne). L’analyse canonique de correspondances (ACC) de l’ensemble des données obtenues fait apparaître le rôle significatif de la conductivité, des ortho-phosphates et du pH sur le développement des streptocoques fécaux. L’ACC montre également l’effet des variations saisonnières et des ions sulfates sur la répartition des anaérobies sulfito-réducteurs. Concernant les coliformes totaux ils sont liés à la température de l’eau et les coliformes fécaux aux ions nitrates et à l’oxygène dissous.

The purpose of this study is to highlight the quality of groundwater, with a special focus on the level of heavy metal contamination. To know the extent of this contamination, the protection and proper management of the groundwater resource is indispensable.The present work is in line with the metallic assessment of the water quality of the Oued Kert basin (Mediterranean area, Driouch province, eastern Morocco) by collecting 46 samples following ISO 5665 standard and tested pH, TDS, EC. Samples were analyzed for Heavy Metals with ICP-MS and Flame Atomic Absorption Spectrometry (Pb, Cu, Hg, Al, Fe, Zn, Cr, Cd, and Ni) to detect heavy metal content. The interpretation of the analytical data, about the phenomena responsible for mineralization, was done using the hydro-chemical classification, resulting from the integrated HPI approach, in addition to the statistical analysis of the data by the analysis of the main PCA components. The majority of the samples were found to be within limits, except for Fe, at some sampling locations, which is above the desirable limit, that is, 300 µg/L according to the Moroccan Drinking Water Standard. This indicates natural and anthropic effects. It shows that the groundwater to the northwest of the study area is probably affected by the leaching of heavy metals from the previous Mhajer mine.
