Abstract:Conclusion Acute causes of bilateral ophthalmoplegia include Wernicke's encephalopathy, Miller-Fisher Syndrome (MFS) variant of Guillain Barre Syndrome, brainstem stroke, myasthenia gravis and botulism. Of these, only MFS and botulism will cause both internal and external ophthalmoplegia.
