We report on measurements of differential cross sections dσ/dp T for prompt charm meson production in pp collisions at √ s = 1.96 TeV using 5.8 ± 0.3 pb −1 of data from the CDF II detector at the Fermilab Tevatron. The data are collected with a new trigger that is sensitive to the long lifetime of hadrons containing heavy flavor. The charm meson cross sections are measured in the central rapidity region |y| ≤ 1 in four fully reconstructed decay modes:
The e + e − → pp cross-section is determined over a range of pp masses, from threshold to 4.5 GeV/c 2 , by studying the e + e − → ppγ process. The data set corresponds to an integrated luminosity of 232 fb −1 , collected with the BABAR detector at the PEP-II storage ring, at an e + e − center-of-mass energy of 10.6 GeV. The mass dependence of the ratio of electric and magnetic form factors, |GE /GM |, is measured for pp masses below 3 GeV/c 2 ; its value is found to be significantly larger than 1 for masses up to 2.2 GeV/c 2 . We also measure J/ψ → pp and ψ(2S) → pp branching fractions and set an upper limit on Y (4260) → pp production and decay.
We present a quasi-model-independent search for the physics responsible for electroweak symmetry breaking. We define final states to be studied, and construct a rule that identifies a set of relevant variables for any particular final state. A new algorithm ͑''SLEUTH''͒ searches for regions of excess in those variables and quantifies the significance of any detected excess. After demonstrating the sensitivity of the method, we apply it to the semi-inclusive channel eX collected in 108 pb
We study the resonance production of radions and Higgs via gluon-gluon fusion
in the Randall-Sundrum model with Higgs-curvature mixing at the LHC. We find
that radion can be detected both in mixed (with Higgs boson) and unmixed case
if the radion vacuum expectation value $\Lambda_\phi$ is around 1 TeV. The
$\Lambda_\phi \sim 10$ TeV case is also promising for certain values of mixing
parameters and radion masses. The mixing can affect the production and decay of
Higgs boson in a significant way. Thus Higgs search strategies at the LHC may
need refinements in case of radion-Higgs mixing in the Randall-Sundrum model.Comment: Version to appear in Physics Letters
