Interactions of active carbons (AC) with solutions of noble metals (palladium, platinum and gold) are investigated. A electrochemical model is proposed to explain the spontaneous reduction of ions on AC' surface. The adsorption of noble metals on AC studied by methods of sorption measurements, potentiometry, flow microcalorimetry and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy. It was shown, that ion exchange, complex formation, and electrochemical processes play an important role in adsorption of noble metals on AC. The selectivity of noble metals extraction from muiticomponent solutions by AC was determined by a reductive mechanism of adsorption.
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
