In patients with fulminant myocarditis, percutaneous ECMO is a highly effective form of a haemodynamic support. Once a patient recovers from inflammatory myocardial damage, the subsequent clinical outcome is favourable, similar to that observed in patients with acute non-fulminant myocarditis.
The addition of the Cox maze procedure to mitral valve repair and replacement was safe and effective for selected patients. Elimination of atrial fibrillation significantly decreased the incidence of late stroke.
The results suggest that the combined approach is safe, effective, and indicated in patients who are judged capable of tolerating the procedure and likely to regain atrial rhythm.
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
