ABSTRACTWe studied the dynamic of the vegetation degradation in a rural anthropogenic mosaic vegetal landscape of the Aisen Region, Chile to establish relations of origin in space and time between communities and propose series of degradation. With plant sociological methodology we make up 50 vegetation samples. The initial table was sorted using differential species in 7 communities: ñire scrub (Anemone multifida-Nothofagus antarctica), silvipasture with ñire, silvipasture with chacay, trebol-ballica prairie (Bromus catharticus-Trifolium repens), chepica-cadillo prairie (Acaena ovalifolia-Agrostis capillaris), cadillo-Aira prairie and cadillo steppe, which were compared in their systematic, biological and origin spectra. The initial table previously transformed into a data matrix was treated with multivariate statistical analysis of classification (cluster analysis) and ordination (principal components analysis). Finally using the Ellenberg community similarity coefficient were compared and distributed in a communities constellation. The flora of the initial plant sociological table consisted of 78 species with a predominance of annual and perennial herbaceous foreign species that indicated a large anthropic influence. This study describes the floristic composition and morpho-ecological transition of woodlands along a climatic gradient in the southern cold temperate zone of Chilean Patagonia. A total of 256 phytosociological relevés were performed across a 150 km NE-SW transect to record vascular plant species. Classification (cluster analysis) and ordination (principal component analysis) techniques were used to segregate and examine the communities. Biodiversity indicators including richness and abundances of species natives and exotics, importance values, Raunkiaer plant life-forms, diversity indices and indicator species were calculated to describe community attributes. Beta diversity was analysed using the Jaccard index. Additionally, the current anthropogenic disturbances affecting this vegetation are discussed. In total, 11 woodland communities belonging to 3 morpho-ecological groups were segregated: a) meso-hygromorphic woodlands belonging to the Baker basin, mostly composed of deciduous forests containing relatively moderate values of richness and diversity but high richness of exotics, b) hygromorphic woodlands belonging to the southern segment of the Baker basin and along the Pascua basin, composed of evergreen forest containing the relatively highest values of richness and diversity and very low richness of exotics and c) high-Andean dwarf woodlands distributed at high elevations in both basins, composed of deciduous krummholz containing the lowest richness and diversity and no exotics. The replacement of deciduous by evergreen communities at low elevations occurs around the latitude 48°S. Anthropogenic disturbances like logging by rural landowners, overgrazing by livestock and road construction are promoting biological invasions in the Baker basin forests, while the forests in the Pascua basin remain pristine since no human population occurs there.
SUMMARYStructural attributes at different levels of biological organization (species, communities, landscape) and plant biodiversity are described and compared between the basins of Baker and Pascua Rivers in Aisen Region. Four hundred and ninety four vegetation samples were taken in forest ecosystems, bush, pasture, and peat to build tables of plant communities that differentiate and characterize biodiversity. The Shannon index, frequency and phytogeographical origin of species were used. Two hundred and ninety six species distributed in 30 communities, with high diversity of plant landscapes were found. Two hundred and forty three (82 %) of these species are native, and 53 (18 %), exotic, showing high human impact. Bushes are diverse formations, with 12 communities in the Baker basin. Anthropogenic grasslands exist only in the Baker basin. The community with the highest level of species richness was the thicket of Nothofagus antarctica with 109 species, whereas the krummholz of Nothofagus pumilio presented only seven species in the Baker basin. The Shannon index shows that the Magellanic forest (Pascua basin) is the most diverse community (H' = 2.923), whereas the Nothofagus pumilio krummholz is the least diverse one (H' = 0.615). The Baker basin has a higher wealth of native and exotic species and a higher variety of plant, than hose found at the Pascua basin probably due to the intense human intervention in the former.Key words: biodiversity index, plant communities, degradation, Aisen, Chilean Patagonia. Palabras c...
