Repair of CoA, even with associated transverse arch hypoplasia, by REEEA through left thoracotomy has a low mortality, low reintervention rate, and low incidence of late hypertension.
An impaired MFE is common in pregnancies in which the foetus has congenital heart disease. After cardiac surgery in neonates, the presence of an impaired MFE was associated with lower survival at 36 months of age for the entire cohort and for the subgroup with hypoplastic left heart syndrome.
There is considerable perioperative exposure to DEHP and BPA for neonates undergoing cardiac surgery. For both BPA and DEHP metabolites, infant concentrations were significantly higher than maternal concentrations, consistent with infant's exposure to medical devices. Further study is needed to determine the potential role of these suspect neurotoxicants in the etiology of neurodevelopmental disability after cardiac surgery.
