Medizinische und medizinhistorische Bibliotheken an der Medizinischen Fakultät der Universität Wien während der NS-Zeit Aufgrund der Bestimmungen des Kunstrückgabegesetzes (BGBl. Nr. 181/I/1998) sowie der Richtlinien und Empfehlungen des Nationalfonds der Republik Österreich für Opfer des Nationalsozialismus und der Kommission für Provenienzforschung haben in den letzten Jahren zahlreiche Museen und auch Bibliotheken damit begonnen, die unrechtmäßigen Erwerbungen aus der NS-Zeit in ihrem Bestand ausfindig zu machen und sie an die rechtmäßigen Eigentümer und deren Rechtsnachfolger auszufolgen.Im Mai 2007 wurde auch an der Universitätsbibliothek der Medizinischen Universität Wien (MUW) ein auf zwei Jahre angelegtes Provenienzforschungsprojekt zur systematischen Erfassung der unrechtmäßigen Erwerbungen in ihrem Bestand gestartet mit dem Ziel, jene Bücher, die zwischen 1938 und 1945 geraubt und in der Folge von den damals eigenständig agierenden medizinischen Klinik-und Institutsbibliotheken erworben worden sind, vollständig zu dokumentieren und sie an die rechtmäßigen Eigentümer oder deren Rechtsnachfolger zu restituieren. 1 Das Provenienzforschungsprojekt der Universitätsbibliothek erhält die volle Unterstützung des Rektorates, dessen Sensibilität für das Thema Medizin und Nationalsozialismus seit den Auseinandersetzungen um den Pernkopf-Anatomieatlas 2 (Ende der 1980er) gestiegen ist. 3
