As members of academic team, faculty behaviors have vital influence on students' lives at universities. This study purposes to discover students' perceptions about faculty behaviors concerning their professional responsibilities, dating/sexual harassment, behaviors inside and behaviors outside the classroom and relationship based on self-interest. The study employs both a quantitative and a qualitative research technique. Results reveal that students' considerations are negative in terms of faculty behaviors inside the classroom and faculty professional behaviors. Significant differences were discovered according to establishment dates of the universities and students' Grand Point Averages (GPAs).
Risk analyses made in the area of seismic activity are going to be of great importance in determining the earthquake interoccurence times. Several statistical methods have been developed for this purpose. Recently, Exponential, Gamma and Weibull distributions are the frequently used methods in this regard. In this study, we investigate the interoccurence time statistics of earthquakes which occurred in the area coordinated 39º–42º N latitude and 30º–40º E longitude in the North Anatolian Fault Zone (NAFZ) between the years 1960–2008, with a mixture of two different distributions of Exponential, Gamma and Weibull and a mixture of the same kind of distribution. We found that the mixture distributions are more suitable than the other examined distribution models for small magnitudes (mc ≥ 3). Also Weibull-Gamma and Weibull-Exponential distributions are agreeable for large magnitudes (mc ≥ 5).
Objectives: Apelin is a member of myokines which has recently been characterized. The purpose of this study was to examine the effects of a weightlifting training (WT) program on some biochemical (glucose, insulin and apelin) and haematological parameters in professional male handball players. It was hypothesized that significant increase would be found in apelin levels of subjects Material and methods: Ten professional handball players (Trained Handball Player Group, THG) completed 6-week WT. Ten sedentary subjects (Trained Sedentary Group, TSG) also completed WT to compare with THG and investigate the effect of being a handball player. Ten subjects have been considered as control group (Control Group, CG). Results: The apelin levels of THG and TSG have been increased significantly (p<0.05) but the increase in THG (55%) is more than TSG (38%). CG subjects did not exhibit any significant changes during the 6-week period (p>0.05). Conclusion: It has been concluded that the WT has an important role on apelin level, especially in professional handball players.
The Weibull distribution is one of the most widely used probability distributions in statistical applications. The percentile parameter estimation method is commonly used in parameter estimation of the two-parameter Weibull distribution in terms of easy computability and efficiency. The effectiveness of the percentile method depends on the selected percentile points and chosen empirical distribution function. In this study, the appropriate empirical distribution function and percentile points were determined to increase the efficiency of the percentile method for two-parameter Weibull distribution by simulation study.
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
