This paper demonstrates the effectiveness of applying constraints in a controller algorithm as a strategy to enhance the pneumatic actuator system’s positioning performance. The aim of the present study is to reduce the overshoot in the pneumatic actuator positioning system’s response. An autoregressive with exogenous input (ARX) model structure has been used to model the pneumatic system, while a model predictive control (MPC) has been employed as a control strategy. The input constraint has been applied to the control signals (on/off valves signals) to ensure accurate position tracking. Results show that the strategy with constraint effectively reduced overshoot by more than 99.0837 % and 97.0596 % in simulation and real-time experiments, respectively. Moreover, the performance of the proposed strategy in controlling the pneumatic positioning system is considered good enough under various loads. The proposed strategy can be applied in any industry that used pneumatic actuator in their applications, especially in industries that involved with position control such as in manufacturing, automation and robotics. The strategy proved to be capable of controlling the pneumatic system better, especially in the real-time environment.
The importance to monitor the water quality level is undeniable due to significant impact to human health and ecosystem. The project aims to develop a wireless water quality monitoring system that aids in continuous measurements of water conditions based on pH and turbidity measurements. These two sensors are connected to microprocessor and transmitted to the database by using a Wi-Fi module as a bridge. The developed system was successfully detect both the pH and turbidity values hence updating in IoT platform. Based on the results obtained, the test water sample can be classified to class IIB which is suitable for water recreational used body contact. Overall, the developed system offers fast and easy monitoring of pH and turbidity levels with IoT application for continuous maintenance of clean water. The work is just concern on the physical water parameters hence further extend to chemical parameter for verifying a better result in measuring the WQI value.
The wastewater treatment plant (WWTP) is highly known with the nonlinearity of the control parameters, thus it is difficult to be controlled. In this paper, the enhancement of nonlinear PI controller (ENon-PI) to compensate the nonlinearity of the activated sludge WWTP is proposed. The ENon-PI controller is designed by cascading a sector-bounded nonlinear gain to linear PI controller. The rate variation of the nonlinear gainknis automatically updated based on adaptive interaction algorithm. Initiative to simplify the ENon-PI control structure by adaptingknhas been proved by significant improvement under various dynamic influents. More than 30% of integral square error and 14% of integral absolute error are reduced compared to benchmark PI for DO control and nitrate in nitrogen removal control. Better average effluent qualities, less number of effluent violations, and lower aeration energy consumption resulted.
This paper investigates several control strategies that potential to perform well in regulating and tracking set point of pneumatic actuator system and able to reject disturbance. The system consists of 5-port proportional valve with the dead-band flow and double rod cylinders that exhibit significant friction. Two control strategies of PID and NPID controllers with four different configurations with and without dead-zone compensators (DZC) are simulated. Three different input signals including step, sinusoidal and random waveforms are used to evaluate the performance of the proposed techniques. The effectiveness of NPID+DZC has been successfully demonstrated and proved through simulation and experimental studies.
