Abstract. In the area of network monitoring a lot of tools are already available to measure a variety of metrics. However, these tools are often limited to a single administrative domain so that no established methodology for the monitoring of network connections spanning over multiple domains currently exists. In addition, these tools only monitor the network from a technical point of view without providing meaningful network performance indicators for different user groups. These indicators should be derived from the measured basic metrics.In this paper a Service Oriented Architecture is presented which is able to perform multi-domain measurements without being limited to specific kinds of metrics. A Service Oriented Architecture has been chosen as it allows for increased flexibility and scalability in comparison to traditional software engineering techniques.
Socially-aware traffic management exploits social signals to optimize traffic management in the Internet in terms of traffic load, energy consumption, or end-user satisfaction. Several use cases can benefit from socially-aware traffic management and the performance of overlay applications can be enhanced. In the talk we show interdisciplinary efforts between communication networks and social network analysis. Specifically, we give an overview on existing use cases and solutions, but also raise discussions at the workshop on additional benefits from the integration of social information into traffic management.
Abstract. Semantic interoperability is the key technology to enable evolution of the Internet of Things (IoT) from its current state of independent vertical IoT silos to interconnected IoT platform federations. This paper analyzes the possible solution space on how to achieve semantic interoperability and presents ve possible approaches in detail together with a discussion on implementation issues. It presents the H2020 symbIoTe project as an example on how semantic interoperability can be achieved using semantic mapping and SPARQL query re-writing. We conclude that the found approaches together with the proposed technologies have the potential to act as corner stone technologies for achieving semantic interoperability.
We propose the creation of a multi-domain measurement framework with dynamic characteristics identical to that of the network as a whole. Our approach recognises and facilitates the ability of independent network entities to set policies and limits on the use of measurement resources locally while encouraging and facilitating the use of such resources by users interested in network paths that traverse remote administrative domains.
