RESUMO O trabalho pretende analisar o processo de institucionalização do programa seis sigma em uma empresa automobilística, localizada na região do ABC no Estado de São Paulo. Temas recentes e polêmicos nos estudos organizacionais brasileiros, o movimento neo-institucionalista e os novos modelos de gestão da qualidade serviram de base para esta pesquisa. Por se tratar de um projeto de dissertação, o artigo apresenta os resultados obtidos depois da validação de um instrumento de pesquisa junto a especialistas na implementação da metodologia do seis sigma. Por meio da aplicação de uma triangulação metodológica, composta por questionários e entrevistas, foi possível identificar o estágio de institucionalização do programa e concluir que a consolidação deste ainda não foi atingida. A validação do instrumento de pesquisa utilizado servirá de apoio às futuras pesquisas relacionadas à teoria institucional.
With flexible fuel technology, customers can choose gasoline, ethanol, or any mix thereof at the fuel station pump. This paper presents the endogenous and exogenous factors that influnced the development of a flexible fuel electronic injection system by Magneti Marelli Automotive Systems Brazil -the first to the market. This software-based architecture, launched commercially in 2003, is now the dominant flexfuel design in the Brazilian market. This article documents the emergence of a local dominant technology (design) in a specific car sub-system. It is shown how exogenous institutional factors played the major role in this process. The paper also shows that this local dominant technological design emerged through the sharing of capabilities and interaction among the key market players, in the absence of a strong appropriability regime. All the main market pioneers were multinational affiliates, inviting questions concerning this technology diffusion outside Brazil.
This article analyzes the relationship between organizational memory and forgetfulness in the generation of operational vulnerabilities, based on a case study carried out with a highly specialized technical team from a multinational company of the automotive sector. The article starts with the presentation of the complexity context of the Brazilian automotive sector in the last decades. It then goes on to discuss the theoretical referential on learning organizations, organizational memory and forgetfulness and organizations with high operational reliability characteristics. Finally, a case study is presented, carried out based on the theoretical concepts described in the body of the article, showing the contradictions and evidence of this relationship.
Este artigo analisa a relação entre memória e esquecimento organizacional na geração de vulnerabilidades operacionais, incorporando um estudo de caso numa equipe técnica altamente especializada de uma multinacional do setor automobilístico. O artigo inicia com a apresentação do contexto de complexidade do setor automobilístico brasileiro nas últimas décadas. Logo em seguida, discute o referencial teórico sobre organizações aprendizes, memória e esquecimento organizacional e organizações com características de alta confiabilidade operacional. Os resultados mostram que os projetos de facilities são moldados por diversas forças institucionais, conduzidos por mecanismos mais tácitos que formais, no apoio à PDNP e na manutenção da infra-estrutura existente. As Gonçalves (2007) has pointed out, over the course of the 20 th century logistics grew from having a fragmented and diluted profile within organizations to playing a key role in the strategy of the networks and chains of international business. In the 21 st century, as will be shown in this article, logistics will expand these functions to include social and political roles in international relations. The installation of a port in East Africa on the Red Sea is the critical incident examined during a technical mission undertaken by a researcher in 2009. In the shape of a checklist, this survey pointed out major barriers in infrastructure, information, rules, and norms. Results indicated crucial constraints in infrastructure and institutional opportunities, which have an impact on the implementation of new developments there. The gradual development of the organizational arrangement of a complex undertaking such as building a port can play a key role in alleviating the underdevelopment of African countries.
