FDG-PET can accurately characterize indeterminate SPNs. PET imaging provides a noninvasive method to evaluate indeterminate SPNs, which can reduce the need for invasive tissue biopsy.
OBJECTIVE.This prospective study was designed to compare the sensitivity and specIficity of a relatively simple examination, We were unable to detect a statistically significant difference in sensitivity or specificity between the 201T1 SPECT and FDG PET scans. Both techniques were sensitive for tumor recurrence with lesions less than 1.6 cm or larger. However, given the greater availability, simplicity, and ease of interpretation and the lower cost of the 201TI SPECT studies, this technique should be considered for detection of tumor recurrence with lesions that are demonstrated to be 1 .6 cm or larger on CT or MR examinations.
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
