The excited states of the "halo" nucleus, 11 Li, have been investigated by means of the pion capture reaction, 14 C͑p 2 , pd͒ 11 Li. Excited states have been identified at 1.02 6 0.07, 2.07 6 0.12, and 3.63 6 0.13 MeV. The continuum part of the 11 Li missing mass spectrum is found to contain a major component which is consistent with 11 Li breakup into one of the 9 Li excited states and two strongly correlated neutrons. scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
