Current ideas about the involvement of inflammation and oxidative stress in the pathogenesis of arterial hypertension (AH) are considered. The relationship between the main pro-inflammatory cytokines and target organ damage in patients with AH was noted. The role of the vascular endothelium in the regulation of inflammation and oxidative stress, including in conditions of the new coronavirus infection COVID-19 in patients with AH, is discussed. The data of the carried out experimental, clinical and population studies indicated that subclinical inflammation and oxidative stress can lead to the development of AH and affect the clinical progress of the disease, including damage of target organs. However, despite the available data, it is currently unclear whether inflammation is a cause or a consequence of AH. Determination of the parameters of nonspecific inflammation and oxidative stress can be used for early detection of target organ damage, assessment of the prognosis of the disease course and the effectiveness of treatment. Further studies of the role of inflammation, immune reactivity, and oxidative stress in AH may lead to the discovery of new strategies for prevention and treatment of the disease.
Activity of cytosolic Cu2+/Zn2+-superoxide dismutase and total superoxide dismutase activity of the spinal fluid of patients with sporadic amyotrophic lateral sclerosis were measured. These parameters correlates with the form of this disease, its duration, and the severity of neurological disorders. Our findings indicate that free-radical processes are involved in the damage to motor neurons in this disease.
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
