(Diatomoflórula Perifítica do rio Descoberto - DF e GO, Brasil, Naviculales (Bacillariophyceae)): Diploneidineae e Sellaphorineae).
Stenopterobia delicatissima (Lewis) Brébisson e Stenopterobia pelagica Hustedt, Surirella biseriata var. constricta (Grunow) Hustedt, Surirella davidsonii Schmidt, Surirella didyma Kützing, Surirella linearis var. helvetica (Brun.)
Palavras-chave: algas epilíticas, diatomáceas, lótico, Sellaphorineae, taxonomia ABSTRACT -(Epilithic diatoms of the suborder Sellaphorineae from Monjolinho River, São Carlos, São Paulo, Brazil). This is a survey of epilithic diatom biodiversity of Sellaphorineae from Monjolinho river, in São Carlos district, São Paulo state. The taxonomic study was carried out based on 33 samples collected between May and October 1998 at six selected stations. Thirty one specific and infraspecific taxa were identified; twenty nine of these were recorded for the first time in São Paulo state.
Two new species of Encyonema are described from Central-western Brazil, bringing the total number of species in this genus recorded in Brazil to 45. Encyonema menezesiae has lanceolate valves with the ends subcapitate to rostrate-capitate, whereas E. candangense has linear valves with indistinct ends. The two species show deep alveoli, linear foramina, and densely areolate striae. These characteristics, together with the narrow valves, distinguish E. menezesiae and E. candangense from related taxa. The new species occurred in slightly acid and mostly oligotrophic waters. Similar aquatic environments in this region are being drastically affected by the use of biocides and fertilizers for agriculture. The description of these two species and their ecological preferences may provide useful information for the preservation of aquatic systems and their communities in Brazil.
-(Planktonic Eunotiaceae Kützing (Bacillariophyceae) of Sistema Lago dos Tigres, Britânia, Goiás State, Brazil). This study aimed to survey the species of Eunotiaceae Kützing family occurring in the plankton of Sistema Lago dos Tigres (Britânia, Goiás State, 15º36'33,7"S and 51º17'56,, environment composed of lotic and lentic areas. Sampling was conducted between June and November 2004 at 11 sampling stations, and samples were collected through a plankton net of 25 µm. Sistema Lago dos Tigres presented 22 taxa, one for Actinella and 21 belonging to Eunotia. Eunotia asterionelloides was the one most common species at sample stations and was recorded in all environments. Among the taxa, 10 are cited for the first time for the midwestern region of Brazil (Eunotia deficiens, E. diodonopsis, E. intermedia, E. longicollis, E. papilio, E. pileus, E. rabenhorstiana var. elongata, E. rabenhorstii var. monodon, E. trigibba, and E. tropico-arcus).
