En Ecuador, el cultivo de amaranto (Amaranthus quitensis) está adquiriendo cada vez mayor importancia debido al incremento en la demanda, sin embargo, existe hasta la fecha un escaso conocimiento sobre las variedades y los diferentes sistemas de siembra que optimicen su producción. En tal sentido, en la presente investigación se evaluó el efecto de la asociación con chocho (Lupinus mutabilis) y habas (Vicia faba) sobre los parámetros agronómicos del cultivo de amaranto bajo las condiciones del cantón Cevallos, provincia de Tungurahua. El amaranto fue sembrado a diferentes distancias de siembra (0,4; 0,6 y 0,8 m) y luego de 30 días se realizó la siembra de las especies de leguminosas (chocho y haba) y fueron evaluadas las variables altura de planta, diámetro de tallo y rendimiento (expresado como el peso total de la semilla en Kg/ ha). Los resultados mostraron que el rendimiento del amaranto varió de acuerdo con el tipo de asociación de plantas, observándose que, los mayores valores fueron obtenidos cuando este se sembró en asociación con chocho, siendo superior cuando se usó una distancia de siembra de 60 cm. Con relación a la altura de planta, el mayor valor fue alcanzado cuando el amaranto fue sembrado en asociación con plantas de haba a una distancia de 0,40 y 0,60 m y cuando se usó la asociación con chocho a 0,40 m. Finalmente, el diámetro del tallo también mostró diferencias por efecto del tipo de asociación, obteniéndose el mayor valor en la asociación amaranto + haba a una distancia de 0,60 m. En vista del efecto positivo sobre los parámetros productivos de la planta de amaranto, es posible concluir que, bajo las condiciones evaluadas, la asociación de A. quitensis con leguminosas podría ser una opción promisoria.
El control de los nematodos fitoparásitos se ha basado principalmente en el uso de productos químicos, los cuales cada vez presentan menor eficiencia, por lo que se requiere buscar estrategias ecológicamente sustentables. Se realizaron dos ensayos para evaluar el efecto de la biofumigacion y solarización sobre las poblaciones de nematodos en el cultivo de tomate (Solanum lycopersicum) bajo condiciones de invernadero. En el primer ensayo se estudió el efecto solo y combinado de la biofumigación con la solarización en el valle Quillan, Cantón Píllaro. En el segundo ensayo se evaluó el efecto del estado fenológico de la mostaza de abisinia en el control de nematodos en suelo en la Parroquia La Matriz del Cantón Píllaro. Se observó menor efecto en el control de Meloidogyne sp. (apenas 25%), mientras que en Xiphinema sp. provocó control total. No se observó efecto de la edad del material vegetal y el tipo de aplicación sobre el número de nematodos, sin embargo, si se observó efecto por el tiempo de acción de los extractos. Basados en los resultados, el uso de brasicáceas en combinación con solarización podría ser una alternativa viable para el manejo de poblaciones de nematodos en cultivos de tomate.
