J'ai désigné, par cette expression : « anorexie génétique » signifiant : <• inappétence à l'époque de la reproduction », l'état singulier, montré par nombre de Poissons, qui consiste dans la diminution, ou même la cessation temporaire, au moment de la ponte, de l'alimentation habituelle. Les géniteurs prêts à frayer semblent se consacrer seidement à la fonction reproductrice, en négligeant les autres. Même, chez certains, et notamment les Migrateurs : Saumons, Aloses, etc., le tube digestif subit des phéno-mènes de dégénérescence, parfois très accentuée.Je me suis efforcé de rechercher les causes de cette anorexie sur plusieurs espèces, dont la Perche, et je reprends ici les descriptions données dans mon ouvrage récent : Les Poissons et le Monde vivant des eaux ; -tome IV ; les u'ujs et les nids (i).La ponte des Perches offre ceci de curieux que les (Tufs s'agglutinent en un long cordon tubuleux. Elle est la seule, dans nos eaux douces, à pré-senter une disposition pareille. Mais une autre partictdarité résulte en elle des habitudes prises alors par les géniteurs. L'histoire de cette ponte mérite qu'on la détaille sur plusieurs de ses incidentes ou paraissant telles. Incidentes sans doute quant au résultat de la [Milite, mais circonstances capitales à l'égard de la conduite intime qu'observe l'organisme du reproducteur dans l'effort de son enfantement. Mieux que la plupart des autres Poissons, les Perches laissent paraître alors les qualités nouvelles, propres à un tel état. Elles en donnent un exemple typique, permettant d'élucider la plupart des épisodes d'apparence énigmatique rencontrés par ailleurs.C'est chose intéressante, en effet, que de comparer entre eux, et d'opposer, les comportements ou manières d'être, des Perches en état de vie erratique dans la saison chaude, à ceux des mêmes Perches dans leur \ ie génétique au début du printemps. Dans le premier cas, elles sont agiles, mobiles, voraces, toujours en quête de proies. Dans le second, et progressivement à mesure que la vie génétique s'installe davantage, elles déjeu-nent atones, pesantes, engourdies, indifférentes à toute capture d'aliments. La Provence et les Alpes-Maritimes sont actuellement l'objet, en ce qui concerne la Truite, d'efforts piscicoles persévérants. D'une part, le repeuplement des cours d'eau, dans leurs zones montagneuses, a été entrepris pour la Truite indigène. D'autre part, plusieurs établissements d'élevage de la Truite arc-en-ciel ont été fondés. Aussi m'a-t-il semblé utile d'étudier la Corse à cet égard, les conditions de milieu étant semblables, ou peu différentes Or, malgré cette similitude, une opposition fort nette s'établit entre les cours d'eau de la Corse et ceux des régions continentales qui lui font face. Ces derniers contiennent, outre la Truite, des représentants parfois fort nombreux de plusieurs espèces appartenant à la famille des Cyprinidés, par exemple le Barbeau (Barbus meridionalis Risso), et la Soufie (Telesles soufia Risso) ; ils renferment aussi des Anguilles, qui arrivent du large à l'état d'alevins, et les remontent ensuite tout en effectuant leur croissance. Rien de tel dans les eaux corses, qui ne portent que des Truites, en sus des Anguilles montées de la mer. Tout peuplement de Cyprinidés et autres poissons d'eau douce leur fait défaut, sauf une seule exception, celle d'une Blennie cagnette (Blennius f rater Asso), qui habite quelques stations isolées, comme elle fait aussi dans notre Midi continental, en Espagne, en Italie.Il en résulte que la faune ichthyologique des eaux douces de la Corse a un caractère remarquable, limité et unitaire, puisqu'elle se borne à la Truite presque seule. En revanche, elle compense cette parcimonie spéci-fique par une ample extension. Sauf cas fort rares, tous les cours d'eau de la Corse, qui sont des fleuves côtiers indépendants les uns des autres, renferment des Truites sur la plus grande partie de leur parcours.On pourrait présumer que l'indépendance de ces fleuves côtiers, leur isolement mutuel, et leur séparation complète par de hautes crêtes montagneuses, aient permis, dans cette ségrégation par bassins hydrographiques distincts, la création de types variés et différents chez l'unique espèce de Poissons qui les fréquente.
