We introduce a novel microfluidic device for cell sorting in continuous flow using tunable standing surface acoustic waves. This method allows individual cells to be precisely directed into five different outlet channels in a single step. It is versatile, simple, label-free, non-invasive, and highly controllable.

Temperature dependence of dark current (I d) and photocurrent (I ph) is reported for Si-based amorphous HgCdTe (a-MCT) infrared photoconductive detector at 80-300 K. It is indicated that an uncooled a-MCT infrared detector can be fabricated based on the Si-based a-MCT. To describe the transport process, the Mott and Davis model [Davis and Mott, Philos. Mag. 22, 903 (1970)] is proposed as the conducting model originally developed for amorphous silicon. A possible mechanism of the carrier transports is shown in the a-MCT materials. The transport transition between the localized and extended carriers leads to the maximal I ph /I d above 200 K. V

Photonic integrated devices that emit vortex beam carrying orbital angular momentum are becoming key components for multiple applications. Here we propose and demonstrate a high-efficiency vortex beam emitter based on a silicon micro-ring resonator integrated with a metal mirror. Such a compact emitter is capable of generating vortex beams with a high efficiency and small divergence angle. Vector vortex beams of various topological charges are selectively generated by the emitter at different wavelengths with an emission efficiency of up to 37%.
