MPA patients at our tertiary rheumatology referral centre seemed to have a less severe phenotype resulting in a less severe disease course and better outcome than reported in other cohorts. Fibrosing ILD was significantly associated with mortality in this cohort.
Patients with MPO-ANCA-positive GPA show significantly different clinical courses compared to those with PR3-ANCA-positive GPA or MPO-ANCA-positive MPA, which should be considered in their clinical management. Classification according to ANCA specificity may improve the evaluation of relapse risk.
The Z but not the S deficiency allele is associated with AAV. Polymers of α1AT are present in the serum and glomeruli of at least some patients with the Z allele, which may promote inflammation through priming of neutrophils.
HMGB1 serum levels are significantly higher in GPA with predominant granulomatous manifestations and correlate with volumes of pulmonary 'granuloma'. HMGB1 may be used as a marker of the burden of granulomatous inflammation in GPA.
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
