Abstract-While new competitors are threatening the traditional business models of Telecommunications operators by providing their services directly to the customer, usercentric service creation paradigm brings new opportunities for operators to deliver diverse, attractive, and profitable services directly to the end-user. This paper discusses the service creation model, architecture and implementation in the European Union sponsored research project OPUCE (Open Platform for User-Centric Service Creation and Execution), which aims at enabling end-users to use their smart mobile devices for both creating and consuming personalized services.
It is well known that noise reduction schemes are beneficial in ASR to reduce training-test mismatch due to noise. However, a significant mismatch may still remain after noise reduction, especially in the non-speech portions of the signals. To reduce the impact of this mismatch, two methods for discarding non speech acoustic vectors at recognition time are investigated: variable frame rate processing and voice activity detection. Experiments are discussed for Aurora 2 and for SpeechDat Car Italian. Results show that both methods are highly effec tive for SpeechDat Car Italian. However, for Aurora 2, feature vector selection based on voice activity detection hardly gives a benefit, while variable frame rate processing actually lowers recognition accuracy somewhat. Several possible explanations o f the different results observed for the two databases are dis cussed

In this paper we present the results of a set of experiments aimed at measuring the performance of Event Driven Mashup orchestrators. We show four different orchestrator implementations, one based on BPEL, one based on a plain Web Service, one based on a JSLEE container and one based on a fully distributed scheme. We show that most of the orchestration activity is spent in Web Service processing, that the adoption of the BPEL platform brings the orchestrator throughput down to an unacceptable level, that the usage of the JSLEE container is not convenient if service component interaction is implemented over a Web Service infrastructure, and that the fully distributed solution exhibits lower latency, as expected, but same throughput, with respect to the plain Web Service implementation.
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
