Me tocó vivir en Guinea Ecuatorial en un momento decisivo de su historia, el proceso de su independencia y constitución como país. Es cierto que viví en la isla de Santa Isabel, donde el 80 % de la población votó en contra de la independencia. Sin embargo, la isla se constituyó en el centro del nuevo Estado, que eligió como capital la ciudad de Santa Isabel. Lo peor del proceso, sin duda, fue la elección de su primer gobierno, presidido por Macías, que terminaría siendo condenado a muerte por su pueblo. Aquella primera época de su historia supuso un per íodo de inestabilidad y desorden, tras un tiempo de autonomía que había sido pacífico y estable.
