Introduction . In Uruguay, the special care required for children with neurodevelopmental disorders presents difficulties including lack of access to specialists and rehabilitation services. Project ECHO (Extension for Community Healthcare Outcomes) connects primary care clinicians from remote areas to specialists to enable them to treat complex conditions through ongoing education and mentoring. Objective . To share the experience of the ECHO Autism program during the first 2 years of implementation. Methods . Analysis of ECHO Autism clinics from June 2015 to June 2017 including clinical cases presented participants’ self-perception of changes in skills and competences. Results . Twenty clinical cases were presented: mean age 4.5 years; 15 were males; and 17 with medical and psychiatric comorbidities. After ECHO Autism implementation, a statistically significant improvement in participants’ self-perception of skills and competences was observed. Conclusions . ECHO Autism in Uruguay is a meaningful approach to autism care and offers improved access to best practice care.
RESUMENSe presenta el catálogo revisado de los anfibios de la Colección de Anfibios y Reptiles del Museo Nacional de Ciencias Naturales colectados en la Comunidad de Madrid. En total, consta de 2272 entradas correspondientes a 18 especies, que incluyen todas las presentes en la Comunidad excepto Hyla meridionalis. Se valora la colección en función del grado de representatividad de los ejemplares de la colección en relación con: 1) la distribución actual de las especies de anfibios en Madrid, considerando el % de cuadrículas UTM de 10x10 km del total del área de distribución de cada especie que se encuentran representadas en la colección; 2) el número de unidades infraespecíficas relevantes desde el punto de vista de la conservación (subespecies o grupos de poblaciones diferenciados ecológica o genética-mente) representados en la colección para cada especie. Los valores de representatividad obtenidos oscilan entre el 0% (Hyla meridionalis) y el 50% (Triturus alpestris). Además, se aporta información acerca de algunas de las poblaciones asentadas en los lugares de colecta históricos, lo que permite concluir que al menos 10 puntos de reproducción han desaparecido durante los últimos años como resultado de la actividad humana, con la consiguiente extinción local de esas poblaciones de anfibios. Por otro lado, en ciertos casos también se ha documentado la desaparición de especies en áreas aparentemente inalteradas. Finalmente, se discute la utilidad de las colecciones museológicas para afrontar aspectos prácti-cos relacionados con la gestión y conservación de grupos amenazados como los anfibios. ABSTRACT The collection of amphibians from Madrid at the Museo Nacional de Ciencias Naturales and its utility in conservationWe present the revised catalogue of the amphibians deposited in the "Colección de Anfibios y Reptiles" of the Museo Nacional de Ciencias Naturales that have been collected in the Comunidad Autónoma of Madrid. It consists of 2272 records of 18 species, including all species present in Madrid except Hyla meridionalis. We evaluate the collection on the basis of the representation of the specimens collected in relation with: 1) the present distribution of each amphibian species in Madrid, considering the number of UTM 10x10 km grid cells represented in the collection in relation with the total number of grids occupied by each species in Madrid; 2) the number of intraspecific subunits that are relevant from a conservation perspective (subspecies or groups of populations that are differentiated on ecological or genetic grounds) that are represented in the collection. Representation values range from 0% (Hyla meridionalis) to 50% (Triturus alpestris). Destructive megathrust earthquakes, such as the 2015 Mw 8.3 Illapel event, frequently affect Chile. In this study, we assess the damage of the 2015 Illapel Earthquake in the Coquimbo Region (North-Central Chile) using the MSK-64 macroseismic intensity scale, adapted to Chilean civil structures. We complement these observations with the analysis of strong motion records and geophysical data of 29 seismic stations, including average shear wave velocities in the upper 30 m, Vs 30 , and horizontal-to-vertical spectral ratios. The calculated MSK intensities indicate that the damage was lower than expected for such megathrust earthquake, which can be attributable to the high Vs 30 and the low predominant vibration periods of the sites. Nevertheless, few sites have shown systematic high intensities during comparable earthquakes most likely due to local site effects. The intensities of the 2015 Illapel earthquake are lower than the reported for the 1997 Mw 7.1 Punitaqui intraplate intermediate-depth earthquake, despite the larger magnitude of the recent event.
