-The objective of this work was to evaluate the influence of intercropping 'Conilon' coffee (Coffea canephora) with rubber trees on coffee tree microclimate, nutrition, growth, and yield. Rubber trees were planted in two double rows 33 m apart, with 4x2.3 m spacing between plants. Treatments consisted of the distances from the coffee plants to the rubber trees: 3, 6, 9, 12, and 15 m. Measurements of atmospheric variables (temperature, irradiance, and relative humidity), leaf nutrient concentration, internode length of plagiotropic and orthotropic branches, individual leaf area, chlorophyll content, and yield were performed. Intercropping promotes changes in the microclimatic conditions of coffee plants close to rubber trees, with reduction of temperature and irradiance level and increase in air relative humidity. The proximity of the coffee tree to the rubber trees promotes the elongation of the plagiotropic and orthotropic branches and increases the individual leaf area; however, it does not affect leaf concentrations of N, K, Mg, Fe, Zn, and B in 'Conilon' coffee and does not have a negative impact on yield.Index terms: Coffea canephora, Hevea brasiliensis, irradiance, monoculture, shading.
Knowledge regarding the behaviour and accumulation of nutrients in coffee berries and leaves is important information for the management of fertilisation. Therefore, this study aimed to evaluate the concentration and accumulation of macronutrients in coffee fruits and leaves under different fertilisation regimes in the south western Amazon, Brazil. The experiment was conducted in of plots subdivided by time: the main plots consisted of two fertilisation regimes (fertilised and unfertilised plants), and evaluation periods were in subplots (
the number of days between anthesis and maturation of conilon coffee berries varies according to the genotype. thus, it is believed that periods of greater nutrient demand for fruit formation also vary according to the genotype, directly influencing fertilizer management. the goal of this study was to establish accumulation curves for the micronutrients boron, copper, iron, manganese, and zinc in conilon coffee trees with different maturation cycles. the experiment was conducted in nova Venécia, state of espírito santo, Brazil, during the reproductive cycle of the 2010/2011 crop year. four coffee genotypes with different maturation cycles (early, intermediate, late, and super-late) were studied. A completely randomized experimental design was used with five replications. The treatments correspond to the accumulation of B, cu, fe, Mn, and Zn in the berries every 28 days in the period from flowering to harvest. The early, intermediate, and late genotypes accumulated Fe, Cu, and Mn in a similar manner, with sigmoid curves, whereas the super-late genotype accumulated these nutrients exponentially. Zn was accumulated by all four genotypes following a sigmoid curve. the early, intermediate, and late genotypes accumulated B linearly, whereas the super-late genotype accumulated B following a sigmoid curve. the maturation cycle of the genotype must be taken into account to apply the correct rate of micronutrient fertilization in coffee plantations.
RESUMOTectona grandis L.f. Break of numbness in diaspores of teak (Tectona grandis L.f.)ABSTRACT Tectona grandis L.f. it is an exotic forest essence of economical and social importance to Brazil. The seedlings of that species are produced through diaspores constituted by the fruits with rigid endocarp and mesocarp. The objective of the present work was to analyze the effect of methods of numbness break in the germination of the seeds of this species. To overcome the numbness of the endocarp and mesocarp, the teak fruits were submitted to the immersion in hot water, immersion in sulfuric acid (33,5%) and immersion in running water. The diaspores were distributed in substratum constituted of sand, and the germination test was accomplished in germination camera with temperature of 30 ºC, under white light for eight hours a day. The evaluations were made daily, for 60 days. The method of immersion of the diaspores in sulfuric acid for three minutes was the most efficient treatment, presenting 73% of germinated seeds.
