The possibility to probe new physics scenarios of light Majorana neutrino exchange and right-handed currents at the planned next generation neutrinoless double β decay experiment SuperNEMO is discussed. Its ability to study different isotopes and track the outgoing electrons provides the means to discriminate different underlying mechanisms for the neutrinoless double β decay by measuring the decay half-life and the electron angular and energy distributions.a
Radiative capture of protons is investigated as a probe of clustering in nuclei far from stability. The first such measurement on a halo nucleus is reported here for the reaction 6He(p,gamma) at 40 MeV. Capture into 7Li is observed as the strongest channel. In addition, events have been recorded that may be described by quasifree capture on a halo neutron, the alpha core, and 5He. The possibility of describing such events by capture into the continuum of 7Li is also discussed.
In a joint experiment the TAPS and CERES collaborations have studied the production of the neutral mesons and in 450 GeV p-Be and p-Au collisions at the CERN SPS. The mesons were identified by their , , and decay modes. The cross sections were measured down to very low ( 20 MeV/c) near mid-rapidity (). The and cross sections are smaller than expected from extrapolations of earlier data to low . Integrated over all , the ratios and / are lower by about 25% compared to previously published values. The reduction may be attributed to the large number of low pions from decays of heavier mesons. In addition, we have studied the dependence of neutral meson production on the mass of the nuclear target and find it in good agreement with previous measurements of charged mesons
The exclusive charmonium production process inpp annihilation with an associated π 0 mesonpp → J=ψπ 0 is studied in the framework of QCD collinear factorization. The feasibility of measuring this reaction through the J=ψ → e þ e − decay channel with the AntiProton ANnihilation at DArmstadt (PANDA) experiment is investigated. Simulations on signal reconstruction efficiency as well as the background rejection from various sources including thepp → π þ π − π 0 andpp → J=ψπ 0 π 0 reactions are performed with PANDAROOT, the simulation and analysis software framework of thePANDA experiment. It is shown that the measurement can be done atPANDA with significant constraining power under the assumption of an integrated luminosity attainable in four to five months of data taking at the maximum design luminosity.
We report on the study of extremely high energy photons, pions and etas, produced in intermediate energy heavy-ion collisions. Possibility of imaging the final-state phase space in these collisions by the Bose-Einstein correlations for photons is critically examined.
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
