You are Someone’s Daughter. Bodies, Caves, and Archives
Abstract
An account of the project “Bodies and Sacred Territories in Gran Canaria”, in which archaeological spaces were intervened, specifically, caves in the Canary islands that feature aboriginal engravings in the form of pubic triangles. The actions, carried out by ten women between 18 and 68 years old, resulted in a video-performance in which the language of living arts engages with the island’s natural landscape and cultural heritage. The project raises historically relevant questions from a gender perspective. The author discusses this project in conversation with the theories of Jacques Derrida, Diana Taylor, Walter Benjamin, and Jerzy Grotowski, with emphasis on the role that women’s traces play in the island archeology.
