A case of plasma cell mucositis is described for its rarity. A probable aetiological correlation with periodontitis is discussed. The patient showed good response to intralesional and topical steroids.
A large kindred is being reported in which reticulate acropigmentation of Kitamura (RAPK) and acropigmentation of Dohi (APD) were associated with features of Dowling-Degos disease (DDD). The pedigree was traced through four generations and 50% of the members were found to be affected. RAPK, APD and DDD are inherited as an autosomal dominant trait with variable penetrance. The differentiation and overlap/association of RAPK, APD and DDD is discussed.
Lucio phenomenon is a peculiar reactional state associated with Lucio leprosy; both exhibit a restricted global distribution. The exact underlying pathomechanism of Lucio phenomenon, which may be fatal at times, still needs further elaboration. A case of relapse of partially treated nodular lepromatous leprosy presenting with Lucio phenomenon is reported, along with a brief review of the literature.
The medical history of the patient revealed that the skin eruptions appeared about 2 days after the patient was administrated a generic drug of amlodipinebesylate, a drug the patient received for years. The generic showed a complete other galenic than the original drug, including Povidone K30, Povidone K90 and lactose. The drug was discontinued, and the patient was treated with methylprednisolone 1 mg/kg weight. During this therapy, the skin eruptions cleared rapidly.Leukocytoclastic vasculitis is well characterized by necrotizing neutrophilic inflammation of small dermal blood vessels mainly resulting in palpable purpura. There are many underlying conditions as drugs, malignancies, connective tissue diseases and infections causing a leukocytoclastic vasculitis. 1 The annular variant of this disease was first described by Degos and Guiliane in 1962. 2 Until this day, there are only about 16 reports of the annular leukocytoclastic vasculitis, often associated with other systemic diseases as sarcoidosis, monoclonal gammopathy, ulcerative colitis, myelomatosis, the intake of the muscle relaxant chlorzoxazone or a chronic hepatitis B. 3-7 The way of development of these annular-shaped skin eruptions is up to now unclear. In our case, we could show for the first time a correlation between the prescription of a generic of amlodipinebesylate and the appearance of an annular-shaped leukocytoclastic vasculitis. Therefore, if any adverse drug effects occur, the possibility of a recent change in the branded product being used should be considered. Ideally, generic drugs with the same active agent should have the same composition.
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
