Palavras-chave: sedimentação, erosão hídrica, áreas preservadasAssessment of the retention of sediments by riparian forest by morphological and physico-chemical characterization of soil ABSTRACT This study aimed to assess the efficiency of a riparian forest to retain runoff sediments from cropped areas by means of morphological and physico-chemical characterization of a Typic Haplustox Cerrado soil along a 204 m transect. All soil samples were collected from layers of 0-5, 5-10 and 10-20 cm on the cropped areas, ending on a riparian forest. The studied areas were cropped with cotton under conventional tillage system. For the morphological descriptions of soil profiles in the riparian forest, four trenches were opened. The first two descriptions done at the entrance of the forest showed the presence of nonpedogenic material over the A horizon, originated from sediments dragged off the cropped areas to the forest through erosive processes. Morphological assessment of soil profiles associated to soil analysis shows that intensive cropping changes physical and chemical attributes, especially aggregation indices, as well as organic matter and Ca contents.
Palavras-chave: efeito das cinzas, indicadores de qualidade, propriedades químicasAgroecosystems of family production in the Amazon and its impacts on soil attributes ABSTRACT The absence of environmental constraints to organic production is the main characteristic of the Amazon, which does not translate into high yields of crops for several successive years when the forest is replaced by agroecosystems. The objective of this study was to evaluate the effect of soil management on the chemical and physical properties of soil by family agriculture, conducted in primitive way. The evaluated forms of use were: agroforestry system, pasture, slash-and-burn agriculture and preserved forest (used as reference), all under Entisol Quartzipsamment. Soil monoliths were collected at 0-5, 5-10, 10-20 and 20-40 cm during two consecutive years (2010/2011 and 2011/2012) in July and January, collecting seven replicates per system. The evaluated soil attributes were: flocculation, aggregates larger than 2 mm, organic matter, acidity, exchangeable cations, phosphorus, base saturation, aluminum and cation exchange capacity. The results indicate that 22 years after the conversion of forest into agricultural ecosystems it is still possible to see the best indicators in managed systems.
O grau dessas alterações depende da intensidade do uso e do manejo do solo, condições climáticas locais e propriedades físicas e químicas do solo.
AbstractCarbon in soil, accumulation and quality litter in family production systems. In the Amazon, the conversion of forests into agricultural ecosystems has been characterized by a reduction in carbon stocks in vegetation, which does not align with the principles of sustainability. The aim of this study was to evaluate the impacts of soil use by family farmers in soil carbon stocks, quantity and quality of litter accumulated. Forms of use were evaluated: SAF = agroforestry system, PA = pasture, RT = stump field and M A = preserved forest, all about Quartzipsamment. In each system were collected seven samples of litter and soil at depths of 0-5, 5-10, 10-20 and 20 -40 cm in July 2010 and January 2011. The contents of macro and micronutrients, C/N ratio, lignin, polyphenols and carbon in the litter and soil were analyzed. Among the anthropogenic systems the SAF system presented higher litter production, accumulation of nutrients in the residues in these two periods of collection and increased carbon storage in the soil during the dry season. However, their residues were more recalcitrant than those of the M A and PA treatments. Keywords: Agroforestry system; shifting agriculture; family farming. Assim, pequena mudança no carbono d...
AbstractThis work aimed to propose alternatives to minimize environmental impacts caused by the generation of solid and liquid waste from the truck wash in a concrete industry in the municipality of Santa Maria -RS. For the analysis of wastewater samples were collected from June to October 2009, in five pre-defined points. The values obtained by the analysis were compared with the results of the control sample and the values determined by NBR 13.696 (ABNT, 1997). The evaluation of theses parameters showed the actual efficiency of decanters already installer in the Company. With this, was found the need to design a new system. The residue (sludge) from the decanters already deployed in the enterprise was removed with a shovel, and air dried in a moist chamber incorporated in the mortar and sieved by replacing the sand by percentages of 10%, 25% and 50%. The bodies of the specimens were broken at 7, 14 and 28 days of healing. The effluent showed a large disparity between the control sample (borehole) and the end of the sample treatment system. Regarding solid waste, incorporate the sludge generated in the industry can mean the reduction of environmental impact, thereby contributing to sustainable development, where there will be no wasted material generated.
