Nesse artigo, refletimos sobre as interações entre corpo, arte e esporte presentes na série fotográfica Pilots do artista Jens Ullrich. Veiculada durante os Jogos Olímpicos de Londres (2012), a obra de Ullrich captou a atenção dos meios de comunicação em geral pelo enfoque inusitado dado às imagens de atletas olímpicos. O artista misturou imagens de estátuas clássicas de culto ao corpo, esculpidas durante o período nazista, com fotos de esportistas competindo em Jogos Olimpíadas.
A partir da obra de Gumbrecht, mas não somente dela, pretendemos sinalizar as aproximações passíveis de serem feitas entre a teoria das materialidades e os estudos sobre o esporte. Em outras palavras, como investigar o esporte adotando como repertório teórico as possibilidades levantadas pela materialidade da comunicação. Nesse sentido, revisamos brevemente a mudança de paradigma teórico em curso no campo das Ciências Sociais, bem como apontamos, na conclusão, caminhos de pesquisa a partir das ideias debatidas ao longo deste trabalho.
Entrevista concedida por Gilmar Mascarenhas, geógrafo e professor da UERJ, a Fausto Amaro e Filipe Mostaro, pesquisadores do Laboratório de Estudos em Mídia e Esporte (LEME). A entrevista foi parte de uma série de gravações empreendidas pela equipe do LEME com pesquisadores proeminentes nos estudos sociais do esporte e que estão dispon íveis on-line.
Neste artigo, investigo as narrativas da imprensa carioca sobre a participação feminina no campo esportivo, mais especificamente nos esportes olímpicos entre os anos de 1920 e 1935. Trata-se de um recorte de pesquisa mais ampla, que investigou o campo olímpico carioca entre os anos de 1890 e 1935. Com base na análise de jornais e revistas cariocas desse período (1920-1935), busco situar a representação do feminino e a postura dos jornalistas e outros atores diante de uma presença cada vez maior de mulheres na esfera do esporte. Como conclusão, pude verificar que a abordagem temática no esporte (graça, beleza, maternidade) não diferia do que era esperado socialmente da mulher à época. Jornalistas e dirigentes esportivos se opunham explicitamente aos avanços femininos no esporte e acionavam argumentos pseudocientíficos e baseados na tradição para justificar seus posicionamentos.
O artigo discute a produção acadêmica e jornalística em torno da Copa do Mundo de Futebol de 1994. Tomando como base a noção de discursos autorizados, desenvolvida por Guedes (2010/2011) inspirada em Bourdieu (1983), estudamos odiscurso construído em torno desse evento a partir de oito enciclopédias e livros de Copas, do Jornal do
Brasil (JB) e de edições comemorativas das revistas Época e Placar. A produção acadêmica investigada foi oriunda de anais de evento, artigos em periódicos e capítulos de livro. Observamos que enquanto o discurso autorizado da imprensa esportiva carece de reflexão e se deixa levar pelo senso comum, ao discurso acadêmico falta simplesmente variedade de repertório temático, referencial teórico e ampliação no número de autores. Os trabalhos acadêmicos
abordaram, principalmente, a hermenêutica da derrota, a questão da identidade nacional, a publicidade e a presença do rádio.
