O nitrogênio (N) é o nutriente mais limitante à produtividade do milho, sendo requerido em grandes quantidades para suprir a demanda da cultura. Além disso, o N aplicado via fertilizante mineral é muito susceptível a perdas por volatilização e/ou lixiviação, o que sugere a necessidade de estudos sobre métodos de aplicação visando otimizar o uso deste insumo. Objetivou-se com este estudo avaliar os efeitos de métodos de aplicação de N na cultura do milho nas condições do Cerrado Mato-grossense. Foram testadas duas formas de aplicação do N, na forma de ureia: aplicação a lanço em área total e incorporação ao solo na linha de plantio as quais foram parceladas em duas aplicações (semeadura e estádio vegetativo V6). O delineamento experimental utilizado foi o de blocos casualizados com três tratamentos e sete repetições. No estádio do pleno florescimento masculino assim como em R2, R3 e R6 observou-se, entre os tratamentos, diferença na altura das plantas, diâmetro de colmo, peso de matéria fresca e seca da parte aérea. Por outro lado, a leitura do teor de clorofila na folha não foi alterada pelo método de aplicação de N. A maior produtividade e peso de matéria seca de grãos foi obtida com a incorporação do N ao solo. Os resultados obtidos neste estudo sugerem que a aplicação de N de forma incorporada ao solo é a melhor estratégia para a obtenção de altas produtividades de grãos de milho para as condições do estado do Mato Grosso.
AGRONOMIA (AGRONOMY) RESUMO: O uso de dessecantes em pré-colheita no sorgo pode tornar essa etapa no campo mais ágil e eficiente. Entretanto, a aplicação de herbicidas sobre a cultura oferece riscos à germinação e ao vigor das sementes. Neste contexto, objetivou-se avaliar o efeito de dessecantes sobre a antecipação da colheita, a qualidade fisiológica das sementes e controle da rebrota em sorgo granífero. O experimento foi conduzido em esquema fatorial (2 x 4) +1, sendo avaliados dois herbicidas glyphosate (Roundup original) e paraquat (Gramoxone 200) aplicados em quatro doses (0,5; 1,0; 2,0 e 4,0 L ha-1 do produto comercial) mais o tratamento controle (sem aplicação) no delineamento blocos casualizados. As características avaliadas foram: antecipação da colheita, primeira contagem de germinação, germinação, teor de água e condutividade elétrica das sementes e controle da rebrota da planta. O paraquat permite a antecipação da colheita em até 14 dias e quando aplicado nas doses de até 2,0 L ha-1 não prejudica a germinação das sementes e, por ser um herbicida de contato, não exerceu controle sobre a rebrota das plantas de sorgo. O glyphosate, por ser um herbicida sistêmico, exerce controle eficiente da rebrota do sorgo e possibilita a antecipação da colheita em até 12 dias.
O cultivo de grão-de-bico (Cicer arietinum L.) tem sido dificultado devido às interferências das plantas daninhas. Objetivou-se verificar o efeito da interferência de seis diferentes espécies invasoras (Bidens pilosa, Commelina benghalensis, Eleusine indica, Ipomoea grandifolia, Uruchloa brizantha e Uruchloa ruziziensis) na qualidade e produtividade de dois cultivares de grão-de-bico (BRS Aleppo e FLIP 86-77c). A interferência das plantas daninhas reduziu o período vegetativo de ambos os cultivares. A espécie Uruchloa ruziziensis influenciou negativamente o número de vagens do cultivar BRS Aleppo sugerindo ser prejudicial ao cultivo. Além disso, os resultados indicaram que há relação entre o período de convivência e o nível de infestação no número de grãos por vagem e peso de cem grãos. Contudo, apesar de todas as espécies daninhas terem afetado a produtividade dos cultivares, tal efeito foi mais sobressalente no cultivar FLIP 86-77c, sobretudo na presença de C. benghalensis, U. brizantha e U. ruzizinsis. O teor de nutrientes no grão variou de acordo com a espécie daninha analisada. C. benghalensis, E. indica, U. brizantha e U. ruziziensis apresentam maior potencial de competição, sendo responsáveis pelos maiores danos na produtividade e nas características qualitativas dos grãos.
