Badminton is a sport that requires a player to perform while being still, as well as in motion. Stability is the ability to maintain or control joint movement or joint position, in the static as well as dynamic state. Improvement in stability could help maintain body control and proper posture positions during play. Accordingly, the study was proposed to analyze stability in junior badminton players and understand its importance. A total of 106 players from South Asia between the ages of 8 and 15 years were analyzed. Prokin 252N and Balance trunk MF systems of Tecnobody Italy were used in the assessment and static, dynamic, and pelvic stability was recorded. The variables used were gender, age, body mass index, and experience in years, level at which they play, current pain, and clicks & catches in the past 1 year. Our study showed that there was signifi cant difference in pelvic stability in terms of age and level at which players compete. There were a variety of other factors which do not affect stability. There needs to be a greater focus on stability training as part of the development of junior badminton players.
Biomechanics plays an important role in badminton and a few studies over the years have improved our understanding of the sport. The aim of the current review is to summarize our current understanding with relation to the four common strokes (forehand serve, power stroke, forehand and backhand overhead strokes) and general endurance and fitness in badminton.
Shooting is a sport of precision that requires balance, and due to the repetitive nature of the sport it needs high endurance as well. Although it is static sport injuries may be experienced from doing the same thing over and over again, thus putting a toll on the body physically. Interventions provided by orthopaedicians /physiotherapist can be very beneficial for a shooting athlete. Postural alignment, flexibility, strength, postural stability, biomechanics and the evaluation and treatment of acute and chronic musculoskeletal impairments are important considerations to a high performance in sports shooting. Postural alignment and gait analysis is very important. A misalignment of the foot and ankle can cause injury of the ankle, shin, knee, hip, and lower back.In our study at Abhinav Bindra Targeting Performance we have taken into consideration the professional shooters on which gait assessment was done before and after the training session. This study will help us know the benefits of training a specific group of muscles for strengthening and improves the efficacy of the athlete.
