El levantamiento y transporte manual de cargas se asocia a los desórdenes músculo esqueléticos, los cuales representan un alto costo para los sistemas de salud y las empresas. Por tanto se requieren estrategias que mitiguen o eliminen los riesgos derivados por su ejecución. El objetivo de este trabajo fue revisar conceptos actualizados sobre los factores de riesgo, métodos de evaluación, medidas de control y prevención que se asocian al levantamiento y transporte manual de cargas. Metodología: Se revisaron artículos publicados de 2007 - 2013 en las bases de datos EBSCO, PROQUEST Y SCIENCE sobre factores de riesgo, métodos de evaluación, medidas de control y prevención asociadas al levantamiento y transporte manual de cargas. Resultados: Se revisaron 43 artículos, donde se encontró que los factores de riesgos asociados fueron la magnitud de la carga, la altura de la superficie, la frecuencia y el ritmo del levantamiento. Las metodologías de evaluación más usadas fueron el método NIOSH y los análisis de videos a través de software. Las medidas de control y prevención estuvieron relacionadas en su mayoría con el control en los individuos, de las cuales el dispositivo asistencial de levantamiento personal (PLAD) fue el más citado para controlar los riesgos. Conclusiones: El levantamiento de carga constituye un importante factor de riesgo biomecánico en la empresa. Entre las medidas de control y prevención de lesiones en la manipulación manual de cargas, tienen relevancia los controles en el trabajador.
El dolor músculo esquelético es una queja frecuente en la población trabajadora a nivel industrial. En una empresa de servicios públicos ubicada en el Valle del Cauca (Colombia), durante los últimos 5 años el dolor músculo esquelético representó la causa más común de queja en las consultas médicas ocupacionales y su prevalencia se mantiene alta a pesar de las intervenciones realizadas. El objetivo de este trabajo fue determinar la prevalencia en el último año de dolor músculo esquelético y los factores asociados en los trabajadores de esta empresa. Metodología: Estudio descriptivo, transversal, correlacional en una población de 240 trabajadores realizado en abril de 2014. La información sobre los síntomas músculo esqueléticos en el último año y factores asociados como datos socio-demográficos, físicos y laborales, fue obtenida de los registros de historias clínicas ocupacionales de control anual. Resultados: El 57,5% (n=138) IC 95% 51,2 - 63,6% de los trabajadores presentaron síntomas músculo esqueléticos durante los últimos 12 meses. Según localización las regiones con mayor frecuencia de síntomas fueron la espalda (dorsal y lumbar) en 16,25% (n=39) IC 95% 12,1 - 21,5%, las piernas en 13,8% (n=33) IC 95% 9,9 - 18,7% y el cuello en 10,8% (n=26) IC 95% 7,5 - 15,4%. Se encontró una relación estadísticamente significativa entre dolor músculo esquelético y la edad de los trabajadores. Conclusión: La prevalencia de síntomas músculo esqueléticos revela que esta población está a riesgo de sufrir patología osteomuscular, por tanto se requiere revisar las intervenciones realizadas en vigilancia epidemiológica.
Las actividades de prevención e intervención de accidentalidad son prioritarias en las empresas para cumplimiento legal y asegurar la integridad de sus trabajadores. Los accidentes de trabajo que afectan las manos ocupan el primer lugar en partes del cuerpo afectadas. Siendo escasa la información sobre estrategias de intervención específicas en segmentos del cuerpo afectados por accidentes, este artículo tiene como objetivo compartir la experiencia de implementación de metodología PHVA en reducción de accidentalidad en manos, en una empresa del sector agroindustrial del Valle del Cauca, Colombia. Metodología: Se describieron las actividades realizadas para reducir accidentalidad en manos, enmarcadas en el ciclo PHVA (Planear, Hacer, Verificar, Actuar). Resultados: Se evidenció reducción de accidentalidad en manos en un 68,3% y la severidad de los mismos representada en días de ausentismo en un 82,3%. Conclusiones: con la implementación de una campaña basada en concientizar y comprometer a los colaboradores con el autocuidado de las manos y asegurar el cierre de condiciones peligrosas que pueden generar accidentes, se realiza intervención efectiva para la prevención de accidentes en manos
A pesar de los avances en seguridad y salud en el trabajo que se han logrado en los últimos años en el mundo, con el advenimiento de los sistemas de gestión, los avances en legislación y la implementación de normas técnicas de calidad, los eventos de origen laboral tanto enfermedades como accidentes, se siguen presentando con cifras considerables e inaceptables.1 Las estadísticas de la Organización Internacional del Trabajo-OIT, muestran cerca de dos millones de muertes al año relacionadas con el trabajo, en gran parte representadas por las enfermedades laborales y un número anual total de casos de enfermedades laborales no mortales que se calcula en 160 millones.2 Los riesgos laborales han venido cambiando, muchos de los tradicionales se mantienen, pero algunos riesgos emergen derivados de las actuales condiciones de trabajo en el mundo y de los cambios tecnológicos. Los empleos de baja calidad proliferan y las condiciones son cada vez más exigentes para los trabajadores, implicando mayor esfuerzo físico y mental.3
La docencia se asocia a una importante exposición a factores de riesgo, entre ellos el biomecánico, en regiones corporales como dorso, cuello y extremidades, además de la carga mental; por lo que se supone que es una población con probabilidad de desarrollar dolor osteomuscular. El objetivo de este trabajo fue realizar una revisión sistemática de la literatura más reciente sobre la prevalencia y los factores de riesgo para dolor osteomuscular entre el personal docente. Metodología: Se realizó una búsqueda bibliográfica de trabajos publicados en los últimos cinco años (2009-2014) en las bases de datos PUBMED y SCIELO, relacionados con la prevalencia de síntomas osteomusculares, dolor osteomuscular y desórdenes músculo esqueléticos en docentes. Resultados: De un total de 24 artículos hallados, luego del proceso de inclusión y exclusión, se revisaron 13. Los estudios revisados indican reportes de prevalencias superiores al 70% de dolor osteomuscular en docentes de diferentes disciplinas, en regiones como el cuello, hombro y lumbar. Los factores de riesgo identificados con mayor frecuencia están relacionados con posturas prolongadas y mantenidas; además de factores de riesgo psicosocial como carga mental alta. Conclusiones: No existen cambios significativos en los reportes de dolor osteomuscular y los factores de riesgo asociados al ejercicio docente en los últimos cinco años. Se necesitan nuevas estrategias para la prevención o intervención específica de este problema.
