The treatments were arranged under completely randomized block design with four replications, in a factorial design 2 x 3 x 3, utilizing two soybean cultivars, three spray nozzles and three chemical control programs. The fungicide applications were accomplished in R1 and R4 growth stages. Drop density, volumetric medium diameter (VMD), leaf area index (LAI), disease severity and grain yield were the variables measured. Based on the severity data of asian rust the area under disease progress curve (AUDPC) was calculated. The spray nozzles studied were significantly different in relation to drop deposition on soybean canopy, VMD, AUDPC and grain yield. The soybean grain yield was increased by 53.17% on Asgrow 8000 RG and 29.89% on Agiara RR cultivar, as a result of fungicide application. The LAI of cultivars influenced drop deposition and penetration into canopy.
Spray droplet spectrum and control of Asian soybean rust in cultivars with different plant architectureAbstract -The objective of this work was to determine the ideal spray droplet spectrum for the control of Asian soybean rust (Phakopsora pachyrhizi), in cultivars with different plant architecture. The experiment was carried out in the 2009/2010 crop season. Fungicide application (pyraclostrobin + epoxyconazole, with mineral oil) was evaluated with four spray droplet spectra -very fine, <119 µm; fine, 119 to 216 µm; medium, 217 to 352 µm; and coarse, 353 to 464 µm -in four soybean cultivars (BMX Apollo RR, NA 7636 RR, Fcep 53 RR, and TMG 4001 RR) contrasting as to leaf area index, plant height, and number of branches per plant. The following variables were quantified: number of drops per cm 2 , median volume diameter of droplets, area under the progress curve of soybean rust, and soybean yield. The definition of the droplet spectrum to be used should consider cultivar and environmental conditions in which the pulverization will be done. The protection magnitude exerted by the fungicide varies according to the plant coverage and the penetration of droplets into the canopy provided by the different droplet spectra. The fine droplet spectrum provides good droplet deposition, disease control, and productivity, regardless of the evaluated cultivar.
ABSTRACTThe effectiveness of defense activation in different soybean cultivars against P. pachyrhizi promoted by phosphite, as well as its association with fungicides in different timing of application in relation to pathogen inoculation, was studied in greenhouse conditions in two assays carried out in completely randomized design, with four replications. The results shown that phosphite was unable to induce defense, because no reduction of severity, pustules.cm -2 number, and Area Under Progress Disease Curve (AUPDC) were observed after the application of the product. The progress of rust was slower in the cultivar Fundacep 55 RR, which had a AUPDC 53% lower than cultivar Fundacep 56 RR, the most susceptible one. The fungicide epoxiconazole + pyraclostrobin reduced 29% the AUPDC value when compared to isolated triazol use, considering average timing application. Applications nearer to inoculation and preventive fungicide application were more effective than those done earlier or later in relation to plant infection by the pathogen. The data indicated that phosphite does not induce soybean resistance against P. pachyrhizi, and that there was variation on partial resistance of cultivars and on the effectiveness of fungicides between themselves and in relation to their application timing.
Environmental factors affect the performance of fungicides in soybean (Glycine max (L.) Merr.). They also influence the residual activity of the products applied to the leaves. The objective of this study was to assess the control effectiveness of the interaction between fungicide application and rainfall simulation on Asian Soybean Rust (ASR). Two experiments were conducted, one in the greenhouse, in a completely randomized design, and the other in the field, in a randomized block design. Both the experiments had the same factorial arrangement of 6x5, with four replications. Factor A: Five fungicide applications time at 0400 h, 0900 h, 1400 h, 1800 h, 2300 h and, a control with no application; Factor B: four intervals of time between the application of fungicide and rainfall simulation at 0, 30, 60 and 120 min for the experiment in the greenhouse and at 2, 30, 60, 120 min for the experiment in the field. A control was included for both the experiments with no rainfall. The number of days to the appearance of the first pustules was determined, along with severity of ASR, relative chlorophyll index and productivity. It was found that the ASR control effectiveness of fungicide applications in soybean plants in sunlight was less efficient with rainfall simulation. The rainfall simulation had greater negative effect on disease control effectiveness in applications conducted at night under dew conditions. The application conducted at 0900 h showed the greatest disease control effectiveness in both greenhouse and in the field conditions. The 1400 h application showed decreased fungicide control residual and ASR control effectiveness, possibly due to a combination of the low relative humidity and high temperature. Rainfall simulation carried out at 120 min after application still had the ability to affect the ASR control effectiveness. Key words: Chemical control. Dew. Glycine max L. Night application.
