Palavras Clave: Guayaquil, soportales, arquitectura, patrimonio, patrimonio arquitectónico, turismo cultural. Guayaquil, a city of arcades: a reflection about its importance and its current useAbstract: The city of Guayaquil presents an architectural feature quite interesting for the traditional use of the walker, as well as visitors and tourists who walk around in the streets, especially in the area called "regenerated", the same as it is known as the "center" of Guayaquil. This architectural feature are the porches or arcades which, apart from its traditional use in the city -especially of the abovementioned area -also has a raison d'être, both climate (to be a protection against the sun and rain), and economic (this area is used as a space for the sale of various products in retail stores installed for the effect). This article will show the main characteristics of some buildings in the city of Guayaquil, its aesthetics reflected in the use of porches, and its possible use for the tourist interest, especially from tourists and visitors interested in the cultural tourism and heritage of the city. Keywords: Guayaquil, porches, architecture, heritage, architectural heritage and cultural tourism.
